We were in Spain in Alicante, where at the Navico Experience Center we were presented and made to try out the new products of the Norwegian group, part of Brunswick. Navico Group is a giant in electronics and, in general, in systems that allow us to navigate with more comfort, precision and safety. Among them is Lenco, a historical name in flaps, which as of today has one more ace up its sleeve.

Lenco Pro Control Auto: how it works

One we liked best is by Lenco, a leading designer and manufacturer of flaps, actuators and marine accessories, and is called the Pro Control System.

The new system is a revolutionary automatic leveling solution. Pro Control Auto is designed to offer boaters a more stable and safer boating experience, thanks to an advanced algorithm that can react in real time to changes in weight and sea conditions.

It consists of three organs: the IMU (which is not a tax, but an accelerometer that measures all angles and movements of the boat), the Pro Control Auto Keypad (the joystick in the console), and the SD Pro flaps. At sea, we tested the validity of the system installed on a sport powerboat, and the difference in sailing was clearly felt; when accelerating, the glide was much faster and more comfortable, because upon sinking the throttles, the Pro Control Auto immediately lowers the flaps to help the boat out of the water. Once underway, then, the flaps are in constant motion to correct the trim; we wanted to test the effectiveness with a yard wave, a very annoying situation for boaters: the boat remained very stable as it passed over the wave, without excessive shaking and rolling.

Pro Control Assist: for the do-it-yourselfer

Alongside the Auto model, Lenco also introduced Pro Control Assist, a simpler system that allows commanders to take direct action via an elegant and intuitive controller, without the aid of the IMU and automatic adjustment. Both systems are compatible with NMEA 2000 and offer the ability to store preferred flap positions. The system boasts a 74 percent improvement in self-levelling performance over previous models. “We know how critical accuracy at sea is,” said Patrick Roberts, VP and general manager of Navico Group’s Performance Components division. “Pro Control was developed to offer unprecedented control, improving stability, comfort and durability, regardless of the size of the boat.”

Lenco Pro Control is also supported by an advanced tool for builders and technicians, which enables custom configurations, comprehensive diagnostics and loading of profiles matched to the vessel.
