. It is a revolutionary project that Lion Yachts and Yamaha started working on three years ago. Lion Yachts then elaborated a liftable aft deck for maintenance and disassembly. The boat is a trawler in its own right, which is why comprehensive testing was conducted to ensure that the boat can cope with all kinds of seas, in keeping with the nature of these hulls.

Lion Yachts Expedition 6.0 and Yamaha

Lion Yachts is working side by side with Yamaha to develop this project. It’s okay to think outside the box, but how did this project start? It all came from an idea of the customer: a long-time boat owner, owner of boats of different styles, who believed that the simplicity and lower maintenance costs of an outboard compared to an inboard system were also suitable for a cruiser. At the same time, the space that is gained aft for tender garage or cabin improves livability, an essential element on a model of this type.

So the result is an 18-meter luxury flybridge with outboards suitable for long sailing.

Yamaha on Expedition 6.0 Lion Yachts5 “We had planned around 30 knots, that was the customer’s goal… And we achieved a top speed of 36 knots. The boat predicts about 14 knots at 3,500 rpm and goes up to 6,000, providing excellent range for fast and efficient sailing. Personally, I was very happy that Yamaha once again exceeded customer expectations“.

It ensures low-speed maneuverability with this configuration. Yamaha’s Helm Master EX control system with joystick, autopilot and Steer-By-Wire controls helps in all phases of maneuvering. Other benefits include reduced fuel odor, also attributed to the engine mounting location.

Lion Yachts in the Future

This 60-foot, 27-ton Lion Yacht with outboard motor has created a new segment of faster, long-distance trawler boats. Looking to the future, Lion Yachts is not content with having reached 60 feet: the future is a 24-meter (80-foot) always powered by the performance XTO 425 hp V8s, and we are convinced it will not be the last such project.
