What if the catamaran mounted surface propellers? We’re not talking about the super-sporty ones we see whizzing around Florida at over 100 knots, but a “Mediterranean” weekender model. Here is a preview of the new Makai M37 GTS, a fast 11-meter that is an evolution of the
Makai M37 we told you about in this video.

Surface propellers and catamarans. One example comes to us from Ireland with the Safehaven T-2000 Voyager, one of the most extreme cruising boats around. Today, however, the model in question is quite different. Smaller, compact, and certainly affordable for more people.

Why surface propellers

The Croatian shipyard decided to integrate foil technology, now increasingly common on this kind of catamaran with surface propellers. The stated goal? To improve fuel consumption without sacrificing speed.

We are not talking about a racing catamaran, that much is clear. The Makai M37 GTS also aims to be a cruiser like the rest of the range. This one, however, will be a bit more performance driven, but also fuel efficient.

Of course, some questions arise: maneuverability, in mooring especially, is certainly not among the strengths of this system, nor is maintenance. For maneuvering in the straits, the integration of joystick control certainly is a useful first response. In addition, the shallow draft (0.55 m with thrusters raised) also allows access to shallow anchorages.

Of course, to get more details, it would be helpful to try it out, to get a good understanding of how it performs in the water.

The M37 GTS is powered by two 370-hp Yanmar diesel engines and has a versatile two-cabin layout with two bathrooms and a spacious, well-equipped cockpit designed to be able to accommodate up to 12 guests on board.

Where to see the new Makai

The Makai M37 GTS will be displayed at the upcoming Olympic Yacht Show in Greece from October 9-12, 2025. For more information, click here.
