A preview of 2023 comes from U-Boat Worx, which will bring to market its new class of private submarines, the NEMO series. Single or two-seater, capable of diving to 100 meters (330 ft), the NEMO 1 and 2 submarines promise to be a revolution in the world of
submarine mobility.

NEMO class, a revolution in underwater mobility

Designed to accelerate and a breakthrough in submarine mobility, the NEMO Class is designed specifically to be more efficient in this regard as well, a program that moves both on the price reduction fronts, as well as on the transportation and operability fronts of the vehicle.

The 2023 market will thus see the Dutch U-Boat Worx launch its class of private submarines offered in single or two-seater versions capable of reaching depths of as much as 100 meters (330 ft). The tangible innovation, however, the company emphasizes, will be sited in a drastic reduction in price. In fact, NEMO class 1 and 2 models will be offered at drastically lower market prices than the standard, a reduction of nearly 80 percent. However, prices, which will still be in the range of 545,000 euros and up, are thus lowered thanks to a decision described as ‘revolutionary’ in the industry: they will be the first private submarines to be mass-produced, rather than one-offs, a key feature in reducing prices. According to Dutch estimates and expectations, this production choice will allow for a significant market increase, leaving hopes of a total of more than 1,000 operational NEMO submarines by 2030 .

Focusing instead on the NEMO Class specifically, these are, to be precise, lightweight, compact, electrically-powered submarines. The NEMO 1, 255cm long, 148cm high and 222cm wide, will have a range of up to 8 hours, diving speeds of 3 knots and be able to accommodate a single individual. The slightly larger NEMO 2, on the other hand, at 280 cm long, 231 cm wide and 155 cm high, will accommodate up to two people, while maintaining similar autonomy to its predecessor and equal speed.

Ideally designed to fit yachts of all sizes, they can also be ‘launched’ from the beach and transported thanks to a whole system of floating road or towable trolleys. All developed in light of an ideal
submarine mobility.
Finally, for future users, there is also a piloting course, available both in the
facilities
U-Boat Worx, or at the owners’ private locations.
