NY 40 Outboard is the latest creature from the Fano-based shipyard Nerea Yachts, presented at the latest boot in Düsseldorf. The Italian brand’s new boat is very recognizable by its sleek lines, but what makes it stand out above all is its upholstery, made from a special innovative resin that purifies the air.
In terms of lines and design, the NY40 Outboard is an open weekender (but you can choose to fit a T-Top as well) that is very sleek going forward, a feeling that is further amplified by the deck-extremely clean in the bow, where we find a large sunbathing area. In the aft area instead of Besenzoni’s “3-in-1” platform (ladder for descent, ascent and tender lift) we find the three outboard engines, which differentiate this model from the inboard-powered NY40 presented two years ago in Cannes.
The three outboards offered by the Nerea Yacht shipyard are 3 Mercury V10 MAS DS XL with 400 horsepower, which also thanks to the V-shaped meat designed by Zuccheri Yacht Design allow up to 48 knots of top speed. Despite the presence of the thrusters, the aft area is nonetheless expertly exploited, with a large three-seater sundeck (covered with a yarn made from recycled plastic) that, thanks to the dividing headboard, also becomes a triple seat for the two side tables. Lifting the sundeck we discover the large area dedicated to the tender garage, while the living area is also served by another sofa leaning against the central kitchen cabinet with teak doors. Further forward we find the two seats for pilot and co-pilot with the control console entirely upholstered in leather.
The big news aboard the NY 40 Outboard is the debut of Oltremateria’s Ecopur material. This natural resin-a recipient of the National Innovation Award-is a system that purifies the air in rooms where it is installed. Nerea Yacht first applied it to the marine industry, choosing to use it to clad the interior of its new boat. Basically, Ecopur is a material that breaks down viral and bacterial charges while improving the air quality of the environment, so it is particularly suitable for a confined and often enclosed area, such as the interior of a boat. All interior surfaces-steps, walls, curtains, bulkheads, and furniture-are coated in Ecomalta with Ecopur resin.
We find this material right in the interior, where there is room for a double forward cabin with dinette, fold-down coffee table, and 50-inch TV. Instead, in the middle of the boat is the bathroom and a second spacious cabin with two single beds. Options include having the double cabin amidships and a living area in the bow.
