Two outstanding debuts for Nerea’s new NY40, which made a notable mark at both the Cannes Yachting Festival and the 2022 Genoa International Boat Show. Among the most interesting opens in the segment, the NY40 comes with the same fine DNA as its predecessor, the NY24, declining attention to detail and care now on larger volumes, yet always embroidering on the needs of the owner.
NEREA NY40, the open class suitable also for cruising
With sleek and elegant lines, Nerea’s new open bears the signatures of Alessio Battistini and Davide Bernardini (studio ideaeITALIA), and offers well-kept and bright interior spaces that are ideal for extending one’s out-of-town cruises even by several days. The markedly sporty, high-performance hull, on the other hand, is by engineer Maurizio Zuccheri, and allows the NY40 speeds of up to 42 knots.
NEREA NY40 – Exterior
The new Nerea welcomes with lines with a classic but distinctive flavor, a design that somehow manages well to fit into a tradition of success, yet stands out with a remarkable unique character. Lines that slender the boat forward, making it as pleasing as it is immediately recognizable. The deck welcomes with a large three-seater aft sundeck, whose headboard divides the areas well, carving out seating for three in the forward area, facing two small tables and an additional settee. This solution creates a pleasant living area in the cockpit, which can be converted into a dining area, and at the same time well hides the tender garage, located under the sundeck itself.
Forward of the second settee is a kitchen cabinet, the components of which can obviously be customized with a refrigerator, ice maker, stove plate, sink, and work spaces. In the T-Top version, the central pylon also goes in here, an elegant solution that can lighten the visual weight of the structure. In the high-tech dashboard, designed to offer an intuitive and comfortable interface, we find navigation instruments of the latest generation and pleasantly distributed, giving the space a light yet ergonomic appearance. Also here, two seats accommodate the helmsman and a second passenger. The forward area is easily accessible via safe and ingenious external passages, and provides additional space to relax.
Finally, a particularly well-designed aft platform stands out, made in collaboration with Besenzoni and consisting of a first fixed portion and three additional steps that can be moved downward, or upward, with functions as a tender lift, gangway, swim ladder and swim platform.
NEREA NY40 – Interior
As for the well-kept and well-finished interior, the layouts are versatile, with freedom to customize in terms of finishes and equipment. Two different solutions are also offered for the forward and aft parts, where it is possible to have a forward double berth or a living area with a C-shaped sofa from broadside to broadside. In the stern, on the other hand, the option falls on a pair of single, movable beds to obtain a double by joining. Of course, there is also a separate toilet.
NEREA NY40 – Motorization
In terms of propulsion, the boat is available with inboard-outboard sterndrives, diesel or gasoline, and there is a choice of two Volvo Penta V6 280-hp engines, two D4 300-hp engines, two D6 380-hp engines, or D6 440-hp diesel engines, for an expected speed, in the latter case, of 35 knots cruising and 42 knots maximum. Outboard lovers, on the other hand, can also choose this type of motorization, with the possibility of also installing up to three powerful 450-horsepower Mercury Racing.Overall, a boat that well balances elements of traditional Italian shipbuilding (polished steel, cabinetry, deck livability) with a modern, almost automotive-inspired design.
