In the beginning it was the iconic Aquarama that had the burden and honor of a Special version, and until now, it had remained the only one. Decades later, another Riva powerboat will have its own special version. At a private event in Sarnico, the official headquarters of the historic shipyard, the new Aquariva Special was presented last June 30.
The Aquariva, the true contemporary heir to the legendary Aquarama, is not only retracing its lines, but also its destiny. If the Special version of the Aquarama included some major changes on the hull and, above all, on the stern, which was made more “usable” through the embedding of some steps, the Special version seems to be more of a cosmetic update. Borrowing an automotive term, it will be more of a restyling, covering some details such as moldings, chrome, air intakes, and bollards. The new stylings will make the aesthetic language more current, without altering its unmistakable identity. The project is being handled as always by Officina Italiana Design, the studio that has been exclusively designing all Riva boats for over 30 years.
Thus, the substance of the now timeless design does not change. Aquariva Special remains a classic runabout like its illustrious predecessor, in an enlarged and more spacious version. In addition to the classic sundeck above the engine room, the cockpit is in fact more spacious and convivial, with a U-shaped sofa, foldaway table, and wet bar. The generous size also grants a small cabin under the foredeck. In keeping with tradition, moreover, its proverbial elegance cannot fail to be matched by adequate sportiness, expressed by 370 inboard hp that gives it a top speed of more than 40 knots.
