One of the most beautiful marinas in the Mediterranean will be born in Palermo, guarantees the President of the Republic, Sergio Matterella. On the evening of Friday the 13th, Mattarella himself unveiled the project, partly implemented and already financed with 30 million euros, of the “Marina Yachting” in the capital of Sicily, which if all goes as planned, will become a coveted landing place for boaters. A work capable of rivaling a similar successful operation. We are talking about Barcelona, which, at the 1992 Olympics, created Barceloneta, a new neighborhood now the pride of the Spanish city that will host, among other things, the 2024 America’s Cup.
Marina Yachting Palermo: part of it is reality
It is not a project to be made from scratch. In the once degraded area of Palermo’s harbor, the strip of land abutting the reclaimed Castello a Mare has already been reclaimed, evicting squatters, sheds, hovels. Some of the work done can already be seen so much that, at last, Palermo has a seaside promenade it has never had and a convention hall, a multimedia museum, dozens of stores, bars, restaurants and a 5-star hotel are nearing completion.
It is not a cathedral in the desert, as is so often the case in Italy. Famous names in town such as Giglio, Retrobottega at Prezzemolo & Vitale’s port, Morettino and Cappadonia Gelati. Street food ‘Passami u Coppu’, Costa pastry shop and Bruno Ribaldi brewery have already joined in bringing Palermo’s “Marina Yachting” to life. There is also an artificial pond with Las Vegas-style light show.
Marina Yachting Palermo: the marina will arrive
What about the marina? It is clear from the renderings that there will be at least 250 berths, including14 berths for mega yachts over 100 meters .
The money for this work, which rivals not only Barcelona’s but also Genoa’s, was put there by the city’s Port Authority using PNRR funds as well. Money, for once, well spent.
