Whether you want to explore the Mediterranean far and wide, prefer long coastal cruises instead, or spend your weeks floating placidly in the archipelagos and fjords of northern Europe, it doesn’t change. Nimbus unveils a brand new voyager, its new flagship, made especially for all this. It is the Nimbus 495 Flybridge, the yard’s first step into the explorer segment. Fifteen meters long and 4.6 meters wide, the 495 comes to life on a concept that looks to owners who seek, in a boat, a platform capable of indulging their needs, taking them independently where they want to go and for as long as possible. With the possibility of some customizations, it is a hull designed to minimize barriers and boundaries, offering volume, comfort and solutions suitable for long cruising.
Nimbus 495 Flybridge
“An Island of its own,” is how Nimbus launches its new flagship, “an island of its own.” A statement that emphasizes exactly what the 495 Flybridge wants to be, a boat capable of offering as much as possible, with as much range as possible. Elements that come to life first and foremost at the concept level in order to accommodate the new requirements that recreational boating demands: autonomy, comfort and versatility. In a nutshell, the new Nimbus 495 Flybridge is a boat for long-range exploration, lendable, however, to any type of cruising you want to go for. While waiting for its official release at the Cannes Motor Show, here, then, is a preview.
Nimbus 495 Flybridge – Exterior
That the Nimbus 495 is a boat that wants to be able to cater to exploration is evident just by looking at its hull: high freeboard, powerful bow to open up waves and deflect spray, protected cockpit and flybridge with wheelhouse, to take the driving experience further, as well as to increase visibility at the helm. Open spaces, then, instead reflect its intended use, offering versatile areas that can be used in a wide variety of contexts.
To meet needs related to outdoor living, forward sundeck and lounge areas bend to different uses, while aft, the cockpit is versatile, with convivial spaces usable both in open air and sheltered from the elements, thanks to a dedicated curtain system to close it off. The hydraulic swim platform then facilitates launching and hauling the tender, simultaneously lending itself to the role of beach area.
Also notable is the flybridge, which is not only practical for elevating the wheelhouse but also furnished to maximize exterior volumes and provide additional lounge and convivial areas.
Interior
Really connoting the 495 as an island in its own right, the interior contributes greatly, for which Nimbus has developed a layout that is not only efficient, but also practical and versatile. More comfortable volumes suitable for long stays: that’s why there is an open space on the main deck surrounded by large 360° windows and complete with everything you need to fully enjoy your cruises.
Here, the galley, salon, lounge, and wheelhouse are in constant communication with each other, offering a single volume where spaces, though separated by function, can communicate with each other, thus not separating roles and places, for a convivial experience that is continuous but always practical and optimized for cruising.
Below decks, on the other hand, spaces are maximized to provide a sleeping area that does not “suffocate” and in turn gladdens stays. Bay windows shed natural light, while the cabin layout offers two large full-beam doubles and a third smaller cabin. A total of 8 beds can also be had on board.
How does this Nimbus navigate
To actually be a cruiser, you have to see it sail. First, to ensure extended periods at sea, autonomy comes into play. The 495 is equipped with both solar panels and a 1,700-liter fuel tank. For propulsion, however, there are two Volvo Penta IPS 650s, capable of propelling the new flagship at cruising speeds between 20 and 24 knots, with 25/27 knots as maximum speeds.
