CE Series 65
Offshore Yachts CE Series 65 by Barracuda Yacht Design

The eternal class of a cruising trawler is now deeply rooted in the imagination of American shipbuilding. It is perhaps the first time, however, that such a creature has been created by a very close collaboration between a California shipyard and a Spanish design studio. Thus was born, from the marriage between Offshore Yachts and Barracuda Yacht Design, a brand new 21-meter, the CE Series 65, an elegant cruising trawler capable of combining the flavor of classic elegance with the demands of modern taste and contemporary boating at its best.

A 65-foot grand-trawler, then, is what emerges from the collaboration between the two brands, resulting in a hull with lines deeply rooted in tradition, yet at the same time in the present, as is well illustrated by the shear windows in the broadside, rather than the water lines below the waterline, deep V-shaped and with a flattened aft section. Lines that will contribute to the performance of the new CE Series 65 which, available powered by 2 engines of 800, or 1300 horsepower, will have peak top speeds between 20 and 30 knots respectively. On the livability side, however, 3 or 4 cabins will provide comfortable sleeping areas for extended stays, with a large salon and fly to fill the role of the main social areas on board.

CE Series 65 – Exterior

As a good trawler, high bow, protected cockpit and flybridge could not be missing on the new 65, which offers, precisely, several outdoor spaces to be enjoyed both under sail and at anchor. In the stern, beyond the flush-deck, it accommodates a large cockpit sheltered by the overhang of the flybridge above, creating a convivial space shielded from the elements and well usable in any context. The bow, on the other hand, offers sunroom space on the deckhouse, unfurnished but already more than inviting in itself.

It is, however, the flybridge that, on the exterior front, plays the main role for both relaxation and conviviality, offering, protected by hard-top, not only the external wheelhouse, but also a lounge area with attached open-air kitchen. Finally, at the stern of this is the crane for the tender, if any, stored in the most protected place on the deck.

Interior

Designed for cruising, the CE Series 65 certainly does not sin in terms of enclosed spaces, starting with the large salon on the main deck, which is surrounded by glass windows and full of natural light. Here, in addition to a first relaxation area, complete with armchairs, sofa and tables (and also intended as a dining area) the on-board kitchen comes to life, complete in accessories and well positioned within the volumes. It carries on the fly, however, an off-center spiral staircase, an advance of the wheelhouse just forward, as well as of the passage to the sleeping area. Depending, however, on the configuration chosen, “Explorer or Cruiser,” the galley changes position, as does the location of the tender, seen above, adapting best with respect to the owners’ needs.

Finally, on the lower deck, cabins take their place, available according to two distinct layouts. In a first case, 3 maximum-beam VIP cabins populate the sleeping area, thus accommodating up to 6 overnight guests, but a second 4-cabin configuration is available, increasing sleeping accommodations to 8 total. Addititionally, crew space is available on board, alternatively usable as a workshop area.

Motorization and Performance

Returning to the engine front, the new 65 is presented to the public with 2 main options: a pair of engines with 800 hp each, or a pair with 1,300 horsepower each. Respectively, it is clear, performance varies, with 20 vs. 30 knots of top speed, brought down to 15 vs. 24 knots, however, looking at cruising speed. Regardless, 6,200 liters of fuel tank will be on board to enable even the most prolonged outings.
