Out of the box. OmikronYachts debuts on the market with the new Omikron OT 60, which is set to be one of the most innovative and original designs of 2023. It is a cruiser (resembling the lines of a sailboat) of 18 meters designed to tour the sea far and wide with a range of up to 1,000 miles (at 12 knots). Let’s see what this“Greek-style trawler” looks like.

Omikron OT 60

Omikron is a new brand of Olympic Marine, the Aegean’s leading shipbuilder, which is unveiled with an 18-meter motoryacht that has a first general peculiarity: it is designed by two sailors, Lorenzo Argento for interior and exterior and Juan Kouyoumdjian for naval architecture.

The design is by Lorenzo Argento, who takes us to a space with surprising volumes inside and bold solutions. Just look at the salon space, going down below deck, which houses a kitchen and dining area with incredible height. The cabins also play a lot on brightness with windows cut in various places that do not betray privacy. Finally, the interior decor was taken care of by Ciarmoli Queda Studio, which focused on natural materials, neutral colors and tactile finishes.

We are talking about choices that differ significantly from the rest of the market. They tend to be aimed at a shipowner who already has experience on board and wants to spend long periods cruising.

The large interior volumes of the cabins of the OT60

For example, the kitchen and dining area are both below decks, but they have really remarkable volume and natural light. This allows for a very large and protected convivial/relaxation area between the aft cockpit and the space under the deckhouse.

Access to the interior of the salon on the deck overlooks a free cockpit where various pieces of furniture can be placed

Omikron OT 60 – How it sails

This 18-meter is therefore designed for long-range cruising at low speeds with exceptional fuel efficiency. We often talk about sustainable yachts: the Juan-K-designed hull is optimized for cruising at 10-12 knots with which the OT60 can travel up to 1,000 nautical miles at 12 knots, consuming only 1.5 liters per nautical mile.

The balance of this boat’s water lines is such that by slightly adjusting the course with the rudder, it is possible even with only one engine of the two available, achieving optimum cruising speeds but halving the number of engine hours.
