Light (and shadow) on board is becoming a fundamental component of naval architecture. It is with this philosophy that Opac, a Turin-based company, prepared for Mets in Amsterdam (Nov. 18-20, 2025) and presented a collection in which nautical roofing dialogues with light to create new atmospheres. From awnings with arms to sophisticated slatted roofs, the goal is to transform technical elements into protagonists of on-board style.

“Light, technology, and design work together to create solutions that are functional, elegant, and perfectly harmonized with the style of the boat,” explains Luca Sacco, CEO of Opac, emphasizing how the company is elevating the concept of roofing from protection to a true element of comfort.

Soft-top: automotive heritage meets LEDs

Building on its experience in the automotive industry, Opac has evolved its famous soft-tops. The main innovation concerns the integration of lighting into the soft-top’s “sky.” A model with LED strips integrated into the ribs will be on view at Metstrade: an engineering solution that makes the light sources invisible when the light is off, while maintaining the fabric’s aesthetic cleanliness.

When turned on, the lights (adjustable in temperature and intensity) solve the age-old problem of illuminating areas below sunroofs, offering the owner the possibility of customized scenarios.

Lamellar hard-top: light games

Even the sturdy hard-tops with adjustable slats receive a “lighting upgrade.” Opac offers two configurations to experience the cockpit or flybridge even at night: integrated LED spotlights, to harmonize with the rest of the canopy, and inter-slat LED strips, sandwiched between blades to create a striking effect similar to the sun’s filtering rays, allowing the beam to be directed by simply tilting the blades.

Rolling Sun Awning: the scenic awning

For those seeking shade on demand, Opac’sRolling Sun Awning(Rolling Sun Awning) combines discretion(disappearing completely into its compartment) with stage presence. The new model displayed in Amsterdam integrates LED lights in both the movable front and the extendable arms. This allows a simple awning to be transformed into a structure that defines the cockpit atmosphere during dinner or evening parties.

Carbon masts: technical evolution for giga-yachts

Not just automated roofs: Opac is also showcasing its line of carbon poles for manual awnings. The range expands with larger diameters designed to withstand the workloads of Super and Giga Yachts. The technical novelty involves a new hybrid fastening system that combines the stability of classic tumblers with the clean aesthetics of “flush deck” systems, simplifying installation. Also for these accessories, the company is studying backlighting solutions to enhance the carbon lines at night.
