Orca is a Norwegian company that has developed a truly innovative navigation system. It all revolves around the Core hardware, the white “little box” in the image. It takes up very little space (11.8 x 11.8 cm and 35 cm in height) integrates several sensors inside, such as a very accurate GPS and compass, and is able to communicate with transducers, batteries, tanks, AIS, engine, anemometers, and all on-board sensors with NMEA 2000 connections.

Orca – Multifunctional

Data can be sent to any smartphone or tablet thanks to Orca‘s proprietary application, which can be downloaded free of charge and can be expanded in its functions with very interesting additional paid elements. In this way you can use the cell phone or tablet you already own instead of (or in addition to) the multifunctional to be installed on board. Orca Core can connect to 5 devices at the same time, smartphones or tablets, and allows you to keep an eye on your navigation data at all times, with the ability to control the autopilot, set waypoints, and change direction from anywhere on the boat. All devices synchronize with each other even without an Internet connection if they are connected to theOrca Core, but taking advantage of the network connection also unlocks some additional features such as Hybrid AIS, which integrates onboard AIS data with those found online. Orca also produces its own tablet speci- fic for use with its software, tested to withstand extreme temeprature and with a display that is readable even in direct sunlight.

A complete tool that fits in the palm of one hand

Display 2 is Orca ‘s tablet that interfaces with the proprietary navigation system. It is a 10-inch Lumen HDX display with 1000 nits brightness and 220 ppi resolution. Besides the useful functions in navigation you can also use it for other purposes, for example to watch your favorite series on Netflix!
