On a spring or summer day, when there is no wind except a slight breeze, imagine yourself at the helm speeding around the coast. What more could you ask for?

Otam 85 GTS

This boat, an Otam one-off, is the result of research and development, design and engineering work by Otam and Marine Design & Services Interior design with the layout, styling and exteriors custom conceived by French designer Joseph Dirand.

One of the treats aboard this super boat is the full-beam master-suite positioned amidships that transforms the 85 GTS into a loft. A one-off fast cruiser powered by a pair of 2600-horsepower MTUs and Arneson transmissions, capable of reaching and exceeding a top speed of 45+ knots and a cruising speed of 35+ knots. The design and engineering are the result of the experience and collaborative effort between Gianfranco Zanoni CEO of OTAM (Director of Production and tester as a mechanical engineer as well as World Champion in off-shore)and and Umberto Tagliavini of Marine Design & Services.

The pair of Otam-patented six-blade propellers designed four-handedly with Rolla ensures an uncommon efficiency of 16 liters per mile at a cruising speed of 37 knots, excellent maneuverability, and allows sailing with maximum comfort in total absence of vibration at all speeds up to 50 knots.

Paris-based firm Joseph Dirand Architecture took care of the interior design and layout and the cockpit styling and layout in every detail. Max Riedl of Germany’s Cornelsen & Partner is the Technical Surveyor representing the owner along with Damien Sauvage of Sauvagepowerboats as commissioning supervisor.

The two center tables can be lowered so as to create two large sheltered sundecks. The layout has been simplified to allow moving around the deck safely and unimpeded. An 85 Semi Open, GTS then, capable of sailing always in total safety and in the absence of turbulence ensuring maximum comfort on board even at the top speed of 50 knots.

The shape of the semi-open hard top, is made of advanced composite materials and shaped following the style of the owner’s specification. It integrates engine vents, protects spaces served by grills for outdoor dining, and perfectly conceals the canopy opening mechanism that is also absolutely custom. The challenge has been to provide spaces that are protected, yet airy and bright. The opening of the superstructure has been extended to the maximum just to enjoy the direct light while remaining sheltered from the wind.

On board the 85 GTS there are two large owner’s cabins forward and amidships with maximum beam, as well as a galley and open-plan lounge/lounge served by another guest bathroom; the crew is accommodated forward with totally independent access from the VIP and Guest areas.
