Cantieri di Pisa, a name deeply rooted in the tradition of local yachting. Active since 1945 in the construction of civilian and military boats, they are one of those typical Italian companies that, between the post-World War II period and the 1960s, was able to transform itself, creating a successful business capable of making its mark. And, today, with the launch of the brand new Polaris 48, a 48-meter voyager designed by Parisotto + Formenton Studio, the historic Cantieri di Pisa is reborn.
The “rebirth” of Cantieri di Pisa
Polaris, a name not new to fans and connoisseurs of the brand. In the 1960s, in fact, from the
Pisa shipyards
several series of motor yachts were born, hulls that are iconic today, named after the stars of the Eridanus constellation. These include the celebrated Akhir and Polaris (we told you all about the latter HERE). Today, in the midst of a phase of modernization, expansion and rebirth, it is from the latter name that the brand restarts, bringing to life a new range of steel and aluminum voyagers with EHPH (Eco High Power Hull) displacement hulls for long-range sailing and low fuel consumption. The first model, the Polaris 48, will be followed precisely by the Polaris 38 andSuper Polaris 60.
Pisa shipyards: the rebirth
In 2021, Cantieri di Pisa was taken over by Enrico Gennasio, inaugurating, with CEO Marco Massabò, a multi-year plan to relaunch the brand. More than 6 million euros have been invested in two years, developing and expanding beyond the facilities to an area of more than 50 thousand square meters, divided between offices, production facilities and new areas dedicated to refit.
Now begins the expansion of the range with the new Polaris 48 represents. The goal? A fleet of ten new models in steel, aluminum, and carbon, inspired by historic hulls of the past, but made current in both design, materials, and performance.
Also taking over to lead design is a new chief designer, Antonio Luxardo. Born in 1968, he has past collaborations with Italian shipyards such as Baglietto, Perini and Sanlorenzo, to name a few. Co-founder of Optima Design, he will be in charge of engineering the new designs, with three new ranges scheduled for launch in the coming months.
Pisa Shipyards: Polaris 48
Thus, with the new Polaris 48, in addition to a new superyacht, we also get a glimpse of the direction taken by the shipyard. In fact, this 48-meter yacht is a hull intended for long sailings, winking at the theme of attention to sustainability, thanks to efficient engineering and the EHPH (Eco High Power Hull) hull, designed to minimize fuel consumption. The progenitor of the new line, it thus introduces one of the new segments, inspired by explorers in terms of range, but taken further by great attention to exterior volumes and interior versatility.
Powered by two 1650-horsepower MAN V12s, it will have a range of about 4,000 miles at 10 knots, and will be able to accommodate everything needed for water sports and exploration. There will be 200 square meters of convivial space and two cabins on the main deck. Above, on the upper deck, the design focus is on social or relaxation areas, while below deck we find four more cabins. Wide freedom of customization for furnishings and materials, as is expected of a yacht of this type.
