The Polish flag is gaining more and more acceptance in Italy. Why is a small country with only a few miles of coastline washed by the sea becoming a major player in Italian boating? That is why the Polish flag is winning over more and more shipowners in Italy.
Polish flag for the boat: the reasons
By now it is well established that more and more boaters are abandoning the Italian flag because they no longer want bureaucratic complications, inspections, and audits. The Polish ship registry mainly has these advantages. Unlike other flags (such as the Belgian and Dutchflags) with which many shipowners have been “burned,” the Polish one, once obtained, is valid forever withoutcost or restriction.
The advantages of registering the boat in Poland (hulls from 7.5 to 24 m in length, or with engine power greater than 15 kW) are obvious:
you must not be a resident of the country
you can register online by paying less than twenty euros (on the Polish electronic register Reja 24, interesant.reja24.gov.pl/)
registration takes place within a few days
is valid for life after payment of the “one-time” fee; there are no expiration dates, renewals, equipment and raft reviews, or fees to pay.
It is all devolved to the responsibility of the skipper.
What is needed to register the boat in Poland
What do you need to register the boat in Poland? Your ID, the invoice or purchase and sale contract showing ownership of the boat (a certificate of deregistration from the previous registry, for boats already registered elsewhere), the engine type approval certificate and the boat’s CE certificate. You will also need to provide a basic port of call and the name of the boat.
Where is the catch? In theory, there is not. But you must know Polish well! The registry is in Polish; you will need Polish digital identity to access it; the documents to be submitted are in Polish. For this we recommend that you turn to one of the many newly born web agencies that will do the paperwork for you. One only has to google to find a large number of them (like this one or this one).
Ihe cost goes up (it ranges from 450 to 600 euros depending on the length of the hull), but since it is a one-time charge, it is a price many are willing to pay. Agencies also offer, for about 150 euros, obtaining the Polish MMSI (boat identification code needed for VHF, AIS) and there are also those who offer, as part of the package, the 65 x 40 cm Polish flag that comes to your door. Just check that your insurance company accepts the Polish flag.
