Port of Solenzara – Nearby
From the Port of Solenzara, it is easy to discover the unspoiled hinterland of the Côte des Nacres, perfect for those who enjoy hiking to the magnificent Aiguilles de Bavella, ornate granite peaks of the Bavella “spires” soar in the first hinterland of the coast. They can also be admired from the highest Col de Bavella, which towers 1,218 meters above sea level: from there one can glimpse the “spires” among the pines and the profile of Mount Incudine, even higher at 2,134 meters.
Also for trekking lovers, there are two nice alternative trails: they are the Pianona trail (whose route takes one hour round trip) and the more challenging one that leads to U Cumpuleddu, a huge hole on top of a rock from which there is an unforgettable view (whose route takes two hours round trip). Returning instead to the sea, a short distance from the Port of Solenzara, along the coast you reach two places not to be missed: the delightful Ansa di Canella and the famous Favona Beach.
Located along the flat coastline that just north of the village of Solenzara leads to Bastia, the Costa Verde is much loved and visited not so much for its long, straight beaches, though clean and quiet, but for its beautiful hinterland of small villages perched on mountain ridges. Located about four kilometers from the coast, the small town of Cervione is truly special. In addition to being the liveliest village on the coast, one stops at one of the many places with outdoor tables to drink a Pietra beer (the Corsican blonde flavored with chestnut flour), it has a truly charming center made up of a labyrinth of steep alleys surrounding the baroque Saint-Erasme Cathedral.
A couple of kilometers south of Cervione one reaches another interesting village, that of St. Andrew of Cotton. Also surrounded by the lush, wild peaks that overlook the beaches of the Costa Verde, it is a picturesque village where all the magic of the Corsican hinterland of times past is experienced. Strolling up and down the narrow streets that connect the three mini-neighborhoods of Cotone, Chigliacci, and Ciglio, one has a unique view of the sea below and, in clear weather, one can admire the outline of the islands of Tuscany.
