Portofino 11 Metri
With a modern look for its time, at its market christening the Portofino 11 Meters immediately reveals itself to be an extremely spacious and versatile vessel. Homologated as a 9.48-meter, however, the design turns out to be 11.47 meters long overall, offering spaces otherwise unthinkable for a vessel. In fact, there are as many as two cabins and a comfortable saloon on board, making it ideal for cruising as well, while a wide and easy deck also characterizes it as an excellent boat for sport fishing. All condensed to volumes and sizes that are not too demanding, and easier to manage.
Portofino 11 Meters – Project
Contextualizing its debut, the exterior design is fresh and modern, presenting a much wider and lower window profile than in the range, thus offering more light to the saloon and dinette. In Murata, we find a protective insert parallel to the waterline, a solution that not only protects the hull, but also streamlines its lines, lightening all volumes. The hull is made of solid laminate, and its reinforcing structure consists of a network of closed-cell polyurethane foam stringers and side members, suitably resined to the hull, a solution that gives solidity to the hull, which, however, has solid wood reinforcements for the areas most subject to stress. To keep the center of gravity low, the sandwich technique with an Airex core was adopted for the deck, thus increasing stiffness while containing weight.
Portofino 11 Metri – Exterior
Presenting bold, sleek lines and volumes, the Portofino 11 Metri is a vessel that appears to be much more. The design is reminiscent of that of much larger vessels, and the volumes follow in this, giving remarkable outdoor spaces, especially for the range. Beginning at the extreme stern, we first find a substantial swim platform on the water (made of teak), ideal for catching up on catch, or for a quiet day of bathing. But the size is such that it can also accommodate a small tender…
In the cockpit then, well protected by the fly superstructure, we find a four-seat sofa, which lends itself to the setup of a dinette. The walkways are of correct size, have an effective diamond-pointed anti-skid, and are served by handrails attached to the superstructure. Extensive is then the area at the bow, reserved for mooring and anchor maneuvers, but overlooked by a double sundeck, set into the deckhouse. From the cockpit, a simple but practical step ladder-with teak steps and stainless steel frame and handrails on both sides-allows easy access to the fly, in versions that include it. Here, in the aft area, is the wheelhouse with a full-width settee for pilot and co-pilot, while, close to the windshield, we find a sundeck settee.
Portofino 11 Metri – Interior
In keeping with Portofino Marine tradition, the interiors are warm and inviting, thanks to the use of teak for flooring and Tanganyika walnut for real estate. The main deck houses a comfortable C-shaped dinette on the starboard side that can accommodate up to four people seated at a table.
Opposite is a small concealed kitchen with sink, two gas stoves, refrigerator and cabinets. Also on this side is the wheelhouse. For sleeping, however, there is either a forward cabin with XL double bed or a second double cabin with overlapping bunks. In contrast, the only on-board toilet room has access from the sleeping compartment.
Propulsion and Performance
Offered with IPS transmissions, the Portofino 11 Metri features a high-performance, marine hull characterized by a 183° stern V, i.e., less pronounced than those of Portofino Marine’s other models, yet achieving better IPS transmission performance. In terms of propulsion, the boat was originally powered by two different options: two 260-hp Volvo Penta D4 with IPS 350, or alternatively, 2 300-hp D4 with IPS 400. In any case, a good cruising range is guaranteed by a fuel reserve of 730 liters.
With the dual 260-hp configuration aboard, for 520 total horsepower, the Portofino 11 Metre test took place with about one meter of wave. The boat went into glide immediately, in just under 4 seconds, easily reaching a peak of 3400 rpm, equivalent to an impressive 32 knots. In calm seas, however, the boat does not struggle to reach 34.
In terms of trim, the hull offers good seamanship, responding quickly to controls and providing comfortable cruising performance, with speeds between 21.5 to 27-30 knots. Even at the helm, the boat proves docile, soft, and course keeping is precise, despite the sea conditions, which the boat deals with softly, without abrupt impacts. Finally, the grip is also positive in turns, denoting good lateral stability even in the tightest turns, despite the high speeds.
