Boats sold in the United States reached a 13-year high in 2020, up 12 percent from 2019, as a result in part of rediscovered interest in outdoor activities. This is reported by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA).
And the boom in recreational boating in the United States looks set to continue into 2021.
For the first time in more than a decade, newcomers have increased, contributing to the growth of smaller boats, often for local waterways and used from fishing to water sports. Sales of freshwater fishing boats, often sought after for their versatility and entry-level prices, account for 50 percent of new powerboats sold in 2020.
Boaters come from all walks of life, financial backgrounds and areas of the country. Boat sales are expected to remain at high levels in 2021, because manufacturers are still delivering a substantial backlog of 2020 orders.
