Premium V6 Yamaha
Yamaha premium V6 outboard coming in 2022

Three new Yamaha V6 outboards are coming: the F300, F250 and F225. Yamaha is renewing its engines with a range of outboards from 225 to 300 horsepower that share the DNA of XTOs, Yamaha’s most powerful engines. Yamaha Premium outboard family expands from 225 to 425 horsepower. Available from 2022, they will be presented at the Genoa Motor Show 2021.

Yamaha premium V6 outboards from 225 to 300 hp

Yamaha’s premium V6 segment is designed for all types of use. It starts from daily use and goes all the way to long-range cruises. This is no coincidence: open or cruising powerboats today mount outboards(read our articles on the best 11-meter outboards here). In addition, one should not forget the marine professionals who want maximum efficiency and the novices, who need safety and ease of use.

Yamaha is announcing these models as the most feature-rich premium Yamaha V6 outboards ever produced by the company, revamping three outboard motors that in today’s market are in demand by an increasing number of boats.

Yamaha’s premium V6 outboard range agrees with everyone. Here’s how.

New Yamaha premium V6 outboards 300 – 250 horsepower:features

Digital electric steering (DES)

DES is now an integrated feature in Yamaha’s 300- and 250-hp V6 outboard engines equipped with Steer by Wire. Digital electric steering simplifies driving while also making it more efficient. In fact, it does not require plumbing systems to be vented or cables to be fixed. The advantages continue with a freer stern without pumps or pipes. Motors with DBW can be equipped with the new integrated Helm Master EX system (read here) (optional) . F300 and F250 V6 outboards not equipped with Drive by Wire technology can be equipped with either digital electric steering (DES) or traditional hydraulic steering.

TotalTilt

The TotalTilt function, exclusive to Yamaha outboards, allows full lift, up and down, (without contact with the trim piston) from any position with a simple double press of the lift button on the remote control box. In the process, the alarm sounds to warn other people to move away from the outboard, and the built-in tilt limiter helps prevent unintentional accidents.

Thrust Enhancing Reverse Exhaust (TERE)

More efficient reverse and low-speed maneuvering: the TERE system keeps exhaust bubbles above the anti-ventilation plate and away from the propeller below 2500 rpm during reverse. The propeller then works only with bubble-free water, with optimal control and reverse thrust. It can be combined with the Helm Master EX joystick and optional DES for excellent maneuverability. This solution is very useful for maneuvering around docks and tight spaces.

Improved engine mounts

Inherited from the XTO, the lower engine mounts are larger and softer resulting in reduced vibration and a more comfortable ride

New and improved lower unit

The new 300- and 250-hp 4.2-liter V6 engines have a new and improved lower unit. The gear tooth profile has improved contact and reduced pressure on the tooth surface. By changing the oil flow within the lower unit and the bearings that support the gears, reliability was also improved.

Design

Aesthetically, too, Yamaha ‘s new range of 300- and 250-horsepower premium V6 outboards take their cues from the XTO. In line with the XTO, the F300 and F250 models feature dual White and Grey coloring (foot and engine of the same color). The layout of these outboards then has a new one-piece grille equipped with an air duct capable of draining water with the lower part of the renewed grille.

New Yamaha 225-horsepower premium V6 outboards:features

Also in line with the XTO is the baby of the premium range: the 225 hp Yamaha V6 premium outboard. The new 225-hp V6 engine block has a large displacement. As with the more powerful models, it has a long intake manifold, exhaust system inside the V, fuel injection system controlled by the Electronic Control Module (ECM) and variable cam timing (VCT). The result is a reliable engine with optimized fuel consumption.

Digital electric steering (DES) optional

The 225 hp V6 is fully compatible with the optional DES. As we said above, Yamaha’s DES system offers a more spacious and uncluttered bilge, with no pipes, pumps, power packs. There is then no need for hydraulic fluids, hoses or relief or cleaning valves.

TotalTilt

As with other Premium V6 engines, Yamaha’s TotalTilt feature allows full lift, up and down, (without contact with the trim piston). How is it done? From any position with a simple double press of the lift button on the remote control box. During the process, an alarm sounds to warn people to move away from the outboard, and the built-in tilt limiter helps prevent unintentional accidents.

Yamaha Outboard V6

Thrust Enhancing Reverse Exhaust (TERE): the “easy” reverse gear.

The characteristics are the same as those of the two more powerful engines, that is, more efficient reverse and low-speed maneuvering.

Aesthetically

Inspired in looks by its “big brother” XTO, the F225 will be available in Yamaha’s classic Grey color scheme. The layout of this model is completed with a new one-piece grille equipped with an air duct capable of draining water, a totally new lower part of the grille, and a design that provides protection.

Upper engine mounts reduce vibration and improve ride

Inherited from the XTO, the lower engine mounts are larger and softer resulting in reduced vibration and a smoother ride.

New and improved lower unit: new components, design features, and increased durability

The new 4.2-liter 225 hp V6 engines have a new and improved lower unit with new internal components. The design of the gear tooth profile has been improved to reduce the contact surface area. In addition, reliability was enhanced by changing the oil flow inside the lower compartment and the bearings that support the gears.

Drive by Wire (DBW) outboard with side recessed throttle

The new Drive by Wire 6X9 side-flush mount control is designed to bring the benefits of the Helm Master EX system to a wider range of vessels. The DBW with side-mounted throttle uses Yamaha’s latest electronic control system. It is easy to install and allows greater flexibility in outfitting premium double consoles and other single engine boats equipped with Helm Master EX. The DBW with side recessed throttle is suitable for single-engine installations from 150 hp up to higher power ratings.

Yamaha V6 outboard and side recessed throttle available

The new Yamaha V6 range and the new DBW system with side recessed throttle will be available from the 2022 season and will be previewed at the Genoa Boat Show this September.
