A brand synonymous with grand cruising and class. Grand Banks, with nearly 70 years of production behind it and as many years of success, is among the shipyards of excellence in trawlers. And now, expanding a range already full of great hulls, comes a new 20.6-meter, the all-new Grand Banks 62, ushering in a new era for the brand’s long-range cruisers.

Building on the success of the previous GB60, the new Grand Banks 62 meets a fundamental and relatively simple goal: to improve. The brand, in fact, takes performance and range research further here, designing and building the GB62 according to V-Warp technology, a combination capable of marrying lines, composite materials, and the distribution of these to achieve the best possible hull performance. The performance achieved by the Volvo engine (available in shaftline or IPS) ranges from 30 knots of top speed to over 720 nautical miles at 21 knots and as much as 2000 mn at 10 knots… The new Grand Banks 62 also looks, clearly, at the comfort of life on board, making the most of its 5.8-meter beam and over 19-meter deck length. The icing on the cake is the availability of different interior layouts, as well as the optional choice of Flybridge or Skylounge.
Grand Banks 62 – Exterior
The years pass but not for the Grand Banks aesthetic, which, yes, updates and adapts to the standards of its time, but without ever losing that spirit and look that, from the first GB 42 (its history here) have made the brand iconic and unmistakable. And so much is also true of the brand new GB62, which does not lose the class inherent in the trawler, but rather hybridizes it as best it can with contemporary volumes and needs.
Whether in Flybridge or Skylounge version (a fly, enclosed), the new GB62 thus retains the classic forward momentum, as well as the raised forward deckhouse, usable as a sundeck, and the “paneling” at the broadside. Aft, however, covered by the flybridge above, the cockpit is spacious, furnished with a classic sofa served by a coffee table. Aft, spaces overlook a generous swim platform while, the tender, instead, finds its place at the fly end, without varying between the two versions.
Expanding the external volumes, in the case of the Flybridge version, come into play the furnishings arranged here, which thus derive, in addition to a second wheelhouse, an entire elevated lounge area, complete with sofa with table, aft sundeck and bar top. Should the Skylounge version be opted for, and thus with the forward section of the fly enclosed, the spaces will basically be divided between a rear section with tender, movement area and outdoor piano bar, and a section, precisely, covered, with wheelhouse, lounge area and toilet.
Interior
In addition to the marine qualities of the hull, underscoring the cruise setting are certainly the interiors, optionally available in different configurations, but already well set up for long periods to be spent on board. Thus bringing attention to the main deck, the volumes are intelligently divided, offering a layout set to different needs, but without necessarily excluding interactions between spaces. Thus, in a large open space, the kitchen, dining area, and lounging area result in communication with each other, leaving space in the bow for the wheelhouse and accesses to the sleeping area.
Below deck, precisely, the layout looks instead to more private spaces, offering a large forward master cabin capable of exploiting the maximum beam, which is accompanied by two additional double cabins. A fourth single cabin concludes the sleeping area, while, 3 toilet rooms serve the entire deck, one shared and two reserved for as many cabins.
Motorization and performance
For a Grand Banks to be a Grand Banks, a key component is its marinity and performance. In the case of the Grand Banks 62, first of all, there are two engine options: in a first case, a pair of 900-horsepower Volvo D13s in the axle line offers up to 30 knots of top speed, with cruising speeds of 27 knots. The second option, on the other hand, sees a pair of 900-horsepower Volvo IPS 1200 engines, a solution that does not vary the cruising speed, slightly increasing, instead, the top speed range. In any case, it is the range that is the important component here: about 2,000 miles at speeds of 10 knots, between 720 and 790, on the other hand, traveling on the 20-knot speed.
