There are parts of the boat where normal antifouling is not enough or does not work. Think of propellers or underwater lights. What about the transducer? Maybe after spending thousands on electronics that can be as accurate as possible, you go out on the water after a few months without using the boat and the instrument works poorly. There is, however, a New Zealand company that has developed several products capable of meeting these needs. We are talking about Propspeed International, whose products from June 2022 are distributed in Italy exclusively by CMP Group S.r.l.
In fact, there are three products that CMP adds to the offering: Propspeed for propellers, rudders, axles, and submerged metals; Foulfree for transducers; and Lightspeed for underwater lights.
Propspeed: smooth propellers, more efficient boat!
The collaboration between CMP and Propspeed stems from the desire of the two CEOs of the respective companies who share a common vision of boating.
“CMP Group is the ideal partner,” said Chris Baird, CEO of Propspeed, ” to distribute our products in the Italian market. Moreover, combining our commitment to-protect underwater assets-with that of one of the world’s largest producers of sacrificial anodes has perfect business value. We are determined to increase our business in the Italian market.”
“Propspeed products fit perfectly with our brands, both as a top-of-the-line positioning and as a scope, such as our Martyr anodes,” said Don Hambly, CMP Group CEO. Propspeed and Martyr anodes are perfect for protecting ships from corrosion together. We are confident that together we will provide our customers with the best solutions to meet their needs without harming the environment.”
The leading brand is Propspeed, which was created with the aim of protecting propellers, rudders, axles and submerged metals also combination with sacrificial anodes so as to also provide corrosion protection. How does it work? In fact, it has as its characteristic feature the creation of an extremely strong chemical and mechanical bond, which results from the application of Etching Primer and Clear Coat. This surface is extremely smooth but free of biocides, so no fouling organisms are able to adhere. The performance advantage is measurable.
“Research has shown that having propellers
– explains Matt Forbes, Propspeed’s EMEA sales director – with even as little as 16.6 micrometers of roughness can lead to an efficiency loss of up to 5 percent. Owners who have applied Propspeed have found savings of up to 7 liters/hour, and three more knots at standard rpm, results that remain consistent throughout the season.”
Propspeed International, not just the propellers
As anticipated, there are two other products that are more specific but equally effective than that for propellers, rudders, etc. The first is Foulfree, specifically for boat transducers, particularly fishing boats, but not only, and Lightspeed, designed specifically for underwater lights.
