Italy’s Quick, a leading manufacturer of maneuvering propellers and marine equipment in general, introduces its new QSY range of thrusters, which use synchronous motors to ensure maximum performance in terms of variable control and sustainable use. In addition to being higher performing and quieter, the new range is also designed to be
“plug & play”
and suitable for electric motors, by virtue of greatly reduced fuel consumption.
Quick QSY – A new range of maneuvering propellers.
Building on last year’s success (+26% sales over 2021), the Ravenna-based company further consolidates its position with its new QSY range, complete with opposing propeller thrusters, IP68 certified and, as of now, available for boats from 7 to 30 meters, with further range in the coming months.
The QSY range
Coming to the technical specifications, the new QSY thrusters (available in sizes of 140; 185; 250; and 300 mm), employ a synchronous motor that uses permanent magnets to generate greater thrust while maintaining lower power consumption than a classic direct current (DC) motor. In addition, the system also offers the ability to provide variable thrust, a feature that is impossible for a DC motor without additional hardware.
In addition, the new QSYs are completely plug and play, as we mentioned, thanks to an integrated driver and feature remarkable performance with more than ten minutes of continuous use, as well as entailing reduced maintenance since they are brushless (brushless), a quality that also provides superior efficiency while simultaneously reducing the noise of the unit itself.
Finally, in contrast to the standard, with the QSY range, Quick is already offering counter-rotating propellers from the smallest diameter, capable of delivering the same thrust on both sides to smaller vessels as well, rather than being limited to yachts over 20 meters.

Quick studied the QSY line to make it more suitable for a full-electric future, thus opting to design and build a system, the QSY in fact, whose energy efficiency is compatible with this vision. Andrea Karlsen, Quick’s Head of Sales North Europe, says in this regard:
“The more the electrification process takes hold, the more energy-efficient solutions will be needed. With a classic DC thruster you need to set up a separate battery pack dedicated to the thruster, whereas with a QSY model there is the possibility of integrating it with the yacht’s main battery pack because it consumes much less energy.”
