The new Cayman 50.0 Hard Top from Ranieri International is an inflatable boat through and through. Despite its 50 feet. I have definitive confirmation of this when I take the helm. On how it performs in navigation I will return later, but I want to emphasize right away how, from the bridge, the feeling I had was that of steering an XL “eight-meter.” Those who like to move around on a dinghy know what I mean.

The entire deck to be on one level. The entire deck, from stern to bow. Protecting the cockpit and the area aft of the wheelhouse is a raised fiberglass broadside covered by an elegant teak band leader on which the two rear hard-top posts also rest. We then have a more protected and intimate central area with two electrically operated tables. This, combined with a sundeck that has a reclining backrest, makes it possible to go from dining area to lounging area in the blink of an eye.

The mobility of the backrests also makes it possible to create, should the need arise, a second sun deck by taking advantage of the central table that folds down. Primarily born for the day, this boat has several strengths on deck: a large garage where a tender can be stowed under the aft sundeck, a full outdoor galley with induction hob, brushed steel refrigerators, sink, cutting board, and four forward-facing seats.

The dining area set up

Hidden gem? An additional shower built into the hard-top.

The aft sundeck. The fold-down backrest becomes part of the forward dining area seating.

Below deck

We go down through the hatch on the left side of the wheelhouse. There are four steps, which are quite wide, leading to a hallway where a small table can be mounted. In total there are four berths. Two are forward, somewhat recessed, but brightly lit with two windows in the broadside and two in the deckhouse at the base of the chaise longue. Two others, however, are in the stern. Completing the interior is a bathroom with separate shower stall with considerable heights. Also noticeable is the effort put into designing the interior with a modern and stylish light system.

The sea trial

Time to see how she sails. After an October that began in the sign of rains and swells, it’s the first north wind that paves the way-and especially the waves-for a flat-water test suitable for assaying the qualities of the double-step hull. The opportunity to get on board arrives at Ranieri International’s newborn and very first Test Center, located in Bocca di Magra (SP), and developed in collaboration with Pagliarini Group. This is an important step for the Soverato shipyard, which in this way makes available to its clients a base with a whole series of models always ready to be seen and tested by potential owners. The test of the Cayman 50.0 Hard Top

Aft are four 400-horsepower Mercury V10s: total 1,600. You can go up to 2,000 hp, but already this configuration is more than enough. In about three seconds we enter glide without much effort. I told you earlier that it feels like being on “big eight meters.” What does it mean? When you are at the helm, visibility is optimal at all times with a very narrow, tapered hard-top, a practical, square windshield with no obstructions in between. Given the cold windy day on which we tested it a little extra protection would not have bothered me, but those are certainly not the conditions for which this maxi-rib is designed. The top speed reached? 57 knots.
