Sanlorenzo is going to save Perini Navi? From Tabacchi to Perotti

Sanlorenzo is the third largest superyacht player in the world, recently listed on the Milan Stock Exchange and has a 2018 turnover of 380 million, up 27% compared to 2017, and with an estimated growth for 2019 of a further 20%.

Thanks to the cash on hand deriving from the stock exchange listing, it is said that Perotti has already made an offer to the Tabacchi family (famous for having linked their name to the eyewear company Safilo) which now owns the majority of Perini Navi.

The idea, after a transition to the bankruptcy court (Article 182) so as to restructure the huge debt, is the establishment of a newco with 70% of Sanlorenzo and the rest to the Tabacchi family.

FROM TOILET PAPER TO SUPERYACHT: THE GENIUS OF FABIO PERINI

Perini Navi, founded in 1983, was one of the stars of Italian shipbuilding in the world until the crisis of 2008. It was born from the genius of Fabio Perini from Lucca who, as a worker in the paper district, made a lot of money inventing modern machines to produce toilet paper.

What does the volcanic Perini invent in the field of large sailing boats? Easy sailing applied to megayachts. How? The key is the reel captive winch, a system of automatic winches, driven by electronically controlled electric motors, which allow the production of large boats manageable by a small crew.

THE BOAT OF ITALIAN VIPs AS BERLUSCONI

A big success in boating industry from Felicity (today Clan VI) 40 meters long in 1983 to Maltese Falcon: three masts, 88 meters long superyacht, passing from Morning Glory (morning erections in English) of 48 meters of the Berlusconi family, just sold, not forgetting for Ennio Doris of Mediolanum the Seven of 60 meters.

PEROTTI SPECIALIZED IN THE REBORN OF PRESTIGIOUS BRANDS

These incredible references were not enough to save Perini Navi from the crisis. Now if the agreement that will bring Sanlorenzo to manage this brand that has made the history of Italian yachting becomes operative, it could return to the splendors of the past. Perotti specializes in these kinds of work. Sanlorenzo brand when the Italian entrepreneur took it over, made a handful of millions and was not in good waters. In a few years Perotti made it the third-largest producer in the world.
