Inflatables and outboards are the big trend of the moment, and Scanner, a Novara-based shipyard specializing in rib, is reviving its “former” flagship with a new engine. The Scanner Envy 1100 abandons sterndrive in this version to switch to outboard while still remaining available with inboard.

Although one solution does not exclude the other the advantages of outboards are lower costs and freedom of movement (they can be raised) allowing the boat to move closer to the coast. This vessel-with hull length under 10 meters-is one of the most successful models made by Scanner, and already a year ago it had “changed” with the addition of the Hard Top to make it more cruiser-like. Today, as then, the work has been entrusted to Montemitro Design, which confirms that it knows the rib world and its facets inside out.

This one features excellent outdoor livability with the large aft sundeck with a small beach that facilitates easy access to the water, ideal for those going out to sea with family and friends. Aft of the hard-top is an area with two seats that forms the cockpit where you can add a plate, sink, or cutting board depending on whether you are into appetizers, spaghetti, or both. In the bow is another large area with sundeck and anchor locker.

The wheelhouse is comfortable and spacious and allows a 360-degree view of the sea. We tested this boat with a pair of 350-horsepower Suzuki outboards even though the maximum engine rating is 750 horsepower. Full proof in the next issue of Paper Motor Boats. Subscribe now!
