Sergio Davì’s arrival in Los Angeles.

It is often said that the important thing is not the destination, but the journey itself. This time, however, we can be almost sure that a sigh of relief Sergio Daví breathed once he landed in Los Angeles. His journey had started several months ago from Palermo, aboard an 11-meter dinghy, the Aretusa Explorer, New Jolly Prince 38cc with two Suzuki DF300B outboards with destination precisely Los Angeles. In between is a 1,800-mile non-stop ocean crossing, the Panama Canal and not always optimal weather conditions. Passion for sailing and the sea, however, are undoubtedly the main ingredients of this umpteenth feat.

Sergio Davì did Palermo-Los Angeles in an inflatable boat!

Today, after 9,201.80 nautical miles and over 519 hours of pure sailing, Sergio Davì completed his latest feat: making Palermo-Angeles by dinghy. After many stops in various countries, the Ocean to Ocean Rib Adventure can therefore be declared over.

Yet how many who had called the feat impossible before departure. Of course, as Davì also often recounted, there was no shortage of difficulties. The goal hit, however, again proved the navigator right.

We reproduce below the statement with Sergio Davì announced his arrival in Los Angeles.

“𝗖𝗼𝗻 𝘂𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶 𝟵.𝟮𝟬𝟭,𝟴𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗻𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲, 𝟱𝟭𝟵 𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲 𝟯𝟮 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗶 𝗱𝗶 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮 𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲, an average total consumption of 3.5 liters/mile and sea conditions not always favorable, at 13.00 local time (22.00 in Italy) 𝗰𝗼𝗻 𝗹’𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗼 𝗮 𝗟𝗼𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀 in the port of San Pedro, 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗮 𝗹𝗮 𝙊𝙘𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙊𝙘𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙍𝙞𝘽 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚!
Here I find myself expected and warmly welcomed by the Consul General of Italy in Los Angeles Silvia Chiave and Vice Consul Pietro Bellinghieri, the Italian community of San Pedro (including a delegation of Sicilian fishermen from Terrasini) and the esteemed President of Suzuki Motor of America Yamamoto accompanied by Vice Presidents Wahira and Blakely.
I extend my extended and heartfelt thanks to all those who in various capacities have made the realization of this ambitious dream possible, despite the many difficulties encountered since its conception, but I also want to thank each and every one of you, who have not ceased for a moment to follow me with all your affection, never making me feel alone.
Sincerely… THANK YOU!
Your Sergio!”
