Stingher 32 GT, built by Italboats, is the model chosen by Sergio Davì for his new adventure. The Japan Sea Expedition, one of the Palermitan sailor’s most ambitious and complicated projects, will feature this 10-meter dinghy as its vehicle.
Daví’s other adventures:
Sergio Davì is (still) record-breaking: he made Palermo-Los Angeles in an inflatable boat
Sergio Davì is a record-breaker: he made Palermo-New York in an inflatable boat
Italy-Japan on a 10-meter dinghy
In the midst of the Düsseldorf boat show, amidst a thousand debut novelties, comes also a very interesting piece of news of which we had already received some suggestions. Italboats ‘ Stingher 32 GT is officially the boat with which Sergio Davì will set out on his new venture in 2025.
Daví’s route
Not all the stages are official yet, partly because logistically the project is far from easy, but the Japan Sea Expedition already promises to be the toughest of Davì’s challenges. Desolate areas, hot spots like the Red Sea, difficult refortifications, weather conditions complicated by monsoons. In short, not exactly a simple trip on the high seas that awaits the Palermo navigator.
The Stingher 32 GT
The model Davì is preparing to sail with will be, as usual, a standard one to which some modifications will be made to the deck plan. A larger tank will probably also be installed to support more demanding crossings including one of about 1,000 miles spun between Oman and India. The other change from, say, the model in the photo above, is in the T-top that will allow the bridge to wrap completely around the front and sides in bad weather. Italboats is a noble name in Italian shipbuilding in the field of inflatable boats. Since 1987, in fact, there have been many innovations brought to the industry by this family-owned brand. Another strength, or rather, source of pride, is the entirely Italian production of these boats including what concerns not only the fiberglass, but also the outfitting. After Nuova Jolly, Davì’s partner in the last two adventures, turnover in the field, or rather, in the water. Powering this Stingher 32, however, remain Suzuki outboards. In this case they will be two DF300s with twin counter-rotating propellers. Also confirmed are Simrad for electronics and Quick for on-board accessories.
