Bivy Stick is an accessory that can save your life. It is a device that transforms the smartphone and makes it a satellite communicator, developed by the company ACR Electronics.

Bivy Stick: what it is

How good is it to go on a cruise? For many it is the most anticipated time of the year, when one can finally leave the city behind with all its problems to connect to the sea, to the rhythm of the waves. When we take the open sea, however, it is not always all sunshine and roses. In general in boating, safety should always come first. That’s why we’ve scouted out a top accessory that can save your life when you’re sailing: it’s called the Bivy Stick and it’s as small as it is useful. An indispensable ally for security.

For the latest issue of Motor Boats (

) we have unearthed a tidbit that can be very useful for those who want to go cruising without sacrificing safety. When we are in the middle of the sea, in fact, the phone does not pick up, and on the one hand that is good, good riddance. On the other hand, there are circumstances in which a connection can make a difference and, in the most extreme ones, can save your life.

How it works

With Bivy Stick you can turn your smartphone, in fact, into a satellite communicator, developed by the company ACR Electronics. Thanks to the mesh mode, the device integrates LoRa long-range technology and the Iridium satellite network without depending on the cellular connection to send communications even when there is no service. Bivy Stick is equipped with GPS and has an IP67 waterproof rating and has a 145-hour battery life, with an additional 24 hours of power reserve to launch emergency signals. It can be kept in your pocket, as it weighs just 100 grams and measures 11.35 x 4.7 x 2.11 cm.

Thanks to Iridium’s satellite network it actually “gets everywhere” and offers a range of features such as two-way messaging, one-touch GPS location sharing, and weather updates, all transmitted via satellite directly to the device.

A unique feature of the Bivy Stick is GroupTrack, which allows group messaging and tracking of up to 12 Bivy Sticks, offering friends and family the ability to monitor location and participate in group text chats via the group web page.
