Some 57 years ago the first D55 was produced, the progenitor of Suzuki Marine outboard production, which today breaks through the wall of 4 Million Outboards produced, a feat that is not only exceptional, but symbolic of a constant presence and continuous progress for the subsidiary of the Japanese giant.
More than 4 million outboards produced
From the D55 produced in April 1965 at the Takatsuka headquarters to the present, Suzuki has now positioned itself at the top of the market with its high-performance, environmentally friendly Ultimate technology and wide range capable of meeting the needs of every boater. In fact, the offering is extensive, spread over no less than two production hubs, and covers from the small DF2.5 handset to the top-of-the-line DF350AMD, presented at the last Genoa International Boat Show.
Suzuki marine division, 0 to 4 million
Although these are just numbers, there is actually much more behind these 4 million, because they are the result of years and years of relentless work, innovation and positive results, and significant growth. In fact, a closer look reveals a continuous progression for the giant, reaching its first million after a full 24 years of operation, in 1989, and then steadily increasing, with the second million in 2004, the third in 2014, and the fourth just eight years after the last achievement. Unsustainable growth if not for a winning market ethic, as perhaps emerges from the words of Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corporation.
“Since the beginning of production in 1965, Suzuki has introduced new technologies with the aim of offering Customers outboards characterized by their uniqueness; and this has led us to the 4 million units produced globally. We therefore thank all Suzuki outboard customers for this milestone. We will continue to provide products and services, pursuing the same purpose, through our locations around the World.”
