The Aquaracer collection is inspired by sailing and water sports, which have always been an important reference for TAG Heuer.
In 1967 Intrepid won the America’s cup in Newport, Rhode Island. This was an important date not only for sailing history, but also for watchmaking: the crew skippered by Emil “Bus” Mosbacher Jr, had each been provided with a Heuer timepiece, an Aquastar Regate. These turned out to be crucial instruments during the race. It was the first time that a watchmaker was involved in such a high level sailing competition, the culmination of a journey that had begun in 1895 when Heuer patented the first waterproof pocket watch case.
Innovation is at the heart of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer collection.
Appearing for the first time in 2003, the range took some time to win over aquatic sports enthusiasts. In 2016 the Aquaracer introduced some new aspects: the diameter of the case increased from 41mm to 43mm and the ceramic bezel was restyled. Another new feature was the magnifying glass over the date, which is located towards the 3 o’clock mark. The anti-reflection sapphire crystal protects a blue and black dial. Water resistant to 300m, the Aquaracer is powered by the celebrated Calibre 5 mechanism. The timepiece can be matched with a satin-finished polished steel bracelet.
