No dice, the 45-foot by 78-knot top speed of theOmega 45 from Technohull were not enough. And even Omega 47 was not enough. Greek shipyard Technohull unveils a new monstrous inflatable boat, the Omega 48, which also renews the philosophy that had characterized its predecessors. Consider putting five outboard motors of 450 horsepower each (total 2,250 hp) or three outboard motors of 600 horsepower (1,800 hp) aft of a 15-meter maxi-rib. A remarkable fireball, huh? The fact is that even stopping at aesthetics, this dinghy is quite an eye-catcher. We are still at renderings, but as it is, we feel like putting it among the maxi-ribs to watch for 2023. Let’s find out why below.
Technohull Omega 48
Compared to other models, take the 47 for example, this new Omega does not simply have an extra foot of length, but also carries a different philosophy. Just look at the maximum beam: 3.6 m in the former case, 4.7 m for the Omega 48. What does it mean? More deck space, more surface area and more livability on board.
A muscular rib yet always very fast. More width means, then, more stability when stationary and thus more comfort. Purely on an aesthetic level, the effect is not bad, indeed. A kind of wide, massive supercar that conveys confidence precisely because of its bulk, while maintaining a sporty, streamlined profile. Seeing it with those 5 Mercury 450R outboards is already a delight for anyone who enjoys speed on the water.
Technohull Omega 48 – Exterior and Deck
TheOmega 48 should be ready to make its live debut in a few months, in mid-2023. At the level of layout on deck everything points to the maximum usability of relaxation and convivial areas on board. Of course, the version without an outboard has a gigantic stern platform, but giving up the glimpse of visible engines on such a vehicle is not an easy choice.
Then there is another social/sundeck area in the bow, opposite the glass windshield. More generally, deck solutions are varied and include a back-to-back sofa with a mini bar (or fully equipped wet bar), or the option of supplementing the island sundeck with a sofa and table.
An important role in line and performance is also played by the aerodynamic hardtop under which we find dashboard (clearly high-tech) with a double row of triple shock-absorbing seats, all upholstered in premium marine fabrics.
In the stern, however, a large tender garage with double sundeck opening has been placed, providing ample storage space for water toys, ropes and even a small tender (dinghy).
Technohull Omega 48 – Interior and below decks
A 50-foot dinghy like this can only have a luxurious interior. It’s not a cruiser, clearly, but the cabin below deck is meant to offer everything you need. In this case, the entrance on the side reveals a comfortable and elegant cabin equipped with an oversize double bed, ample storage space, and a separate bathroom with shower.
Technohull Omega 48 – Speed
While the price of Technohull’s Omega 48 has not yet been unveiled, on performance we already have some more information. The hull uses the patented Dynastream hull, for extreme speeds, aided by an extreme engine team. We start with the 1,200 horsepower of two 600-horsepower outboards, but go up to five outboards for 450 horsepower. Of course, there are then various intermediate combinations and diesel options available, but the expected speed is over 100 mph in the most powerful engine configurations.
