You are under the summer heatwave, at anchor, on your dinghy, small open, midsize cabin cruiser that is. Or in the sudden rain. To regret the absence of a bimini to give you some shade or an extended hard-top to protect you from the water. Know that there is a much faster and more practical solution, and it is not the classic “national-popular” umbrella.
It is called Helios and is an ultralight removable awning system designed especially for small and medium-sized powerboats. Consists of carbon fiber uprights and a set of tumblers for attachment. The number of poles is normally 2 or 4 per boat, but the choice is up to you. The strength of carbon fiber makes these poles the most stable support for your awning. No vibration means a quieter sailing experience at anchor as well as while underway.
HERE’S HOW TO CHOOSE IT
Carbon fiber poles are available in the exposed carbon finish typical of Exit Carbon, the manufacturer, or can be customized with a color of your choice.
– Choose from four lengths (150 cm, 175 cm, 200 cm, 225 cm), three diameters (32 mm, 38 mm, 60 mm), and two angles (0° or 6°).
– Choose the most suitable mounting cup for your boat. With a sloping tumbler you can follow the lines of your boat’s superstructure or make the cover wider at shoulder level while maintaining a limited perimeter on deck.
– Decide how to connect the awning: with a simple loop if it has an adjustable strap or with a Clamcleat-type stopper on the side if it has a fixed top.
YOU ASSEMBLE AND DISASSEMBLE IT IN NO TIME
Slip the very light poles into the Delrin-coated cups, where the tension of the mounted awning locks them in place. By unhooking the awning, they slip off effortlessly, and you can hang them on a bulkhead or under the locker lid with the dedicated stainless steel snap clips. Prices start from 180 euros.
