A secretive man, who prefers to remain unknown, is the lucky owner of the first example of the Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats 420 Monte Carlo with a closed deck and outboard motors. The anonymous owner of this sublime 42-footer, however, shared an anecdote that perfectly represents the unique character of his boat. The hull was on display at Nor-Tech’s annual sales force gathering held in Florida, and during the move, it happened that “I was passing under a bridge when a lady shouted out to me, ‘Hey, your boat is damn good!’
Actually, the translation is not literal. The word used was far more colorful than “damnably.”
For a few and not for all
With a hull derived from the Nor-Tech 400 Super Sport (center console), this 42-footer elegantly combines ultra-modern style and retro charm. However, this is certainly not a model intended for mass production. The heart of Nor-Tech’s business remains centered on center console boats. The 420 Monte Carlo is designed for those looking for something exclusive and out of the box.
“You won’t see it around everywhere,” said the owner, a big fan of the brand with several Nor-Tech signature boats behind him.
A speed-loving boat
With a total power output of 1,500 horsepower generated by three outboard engines Mercury Racing 500-horsepower, the 420 Monte Carlo effortlessly reaches 80 knots.
According to the owner’s words, acceleration at medium speed is impressive, and the time to plane is also minimal due to the use of flaps. The boat remains stable and balanced at all times, even though it has not actually sailed in rough seas yet. However, comfort on board is ensured by a large windshield that has the function of deflecting air flows past the occupants’ heads. Designed for quick trips and as a day cruiser, however, she is equipped with a double berth below deck, making her usable for a few weekends away as well.
The “wow elements” of the Nor-Tech 420 Monte Carlo
Like any self-respecting custom boat, this one also has its “wow element”: an electric windshield positioned in front of the elegant triple driver’s station. Another appreciable detail? The padded floor in the helm area, making it more comfortable to stay aboard.
Molded steps in the sliding cabin door, covered in a wood-effect material, facilitate access to the deck while the center section and walkways are finished with a transparent non-slip. The real highlight, however, is the ample space dedicated to accommodating passengers: two aft side lounges, the triple driver’s station, a rear sundeck for three people, and three additional seats toward the bow in front of the center console.
Although we will only be able to see it in photos, we can say that the lady on the bridge was exactly right: it really is a “damn” beautiful boat.
