Forget about improvised mounts and brackets to fix the heavy outboard when not in use on your dinghy. With Mitek‘s innovative inboard outboard motor, model Revolve, the problem is solved. This system installs directly on the boat’s transom and, once positioned, never moves again; in fact, it can rotate on itself, minimizing clutter. Mitek is a Ravenna-based company specializing in the production of inboard, pod, saildrive and outboard electric motors, with power ratings currently reaching 40 hp equivalent. The Revolve stands out for its unique functionality, positioning itself as an inboard-outboard motor that combines the best features of previous models.
The characteristics of the Revolve
Designed specifically for dinghies, the Revolve engine features a convenient retractable locking mechanism. At the end of use, a push of a button is all it takes to bring it to the“closed” position, causing the engine to rotate on itself and occupy only the transom space, without protruding under the bottom of the tender. With the same control, you can return it to the“open” position with the propeller ready to plunge into the water.
Inside its chassis, the Revolve can accommodate motors with power ratings ranging from 6 to 20 hp equivalent, depending on the battery pack chosen. The external structure is made of anodized aluminum, a finish that protects the internal parts of the motor from corrosion and rust, thus ensuring long life for even the most delicate components. Mitek also suggests another use for this engine besides the tender, and that is to couple it with a thermal motor. In this way, by coupling for example a central endothermic engine with two side Revolve engines, a hybrid propulsion is obtained, which is especially useful for maneuvering (it can replace for example the role of maneuvering propellers).
The Revolve is all-electric and received an honorable mention at the DAME Awards in the propulsion category during the last Metstrade, the annual boat accessories show in Amsterdam. This engine is an ideal solution for both those who keep the tender on board and those who store it in the garage. With traditional outboards (both thermal and electric), it is always necessary to remove the engine after use, an operation that can be tiring. With the Revolve, on the other hand, this issue is eliminated: once installed, you no longer have to worry about assembly and disassembly.
