The German tuning house, known for its four-wheeled creations, puts electric boats in its sights. Following limited editions for Audi, Volkswagen, and Lamborghini, the company has entered into a collaboration with the Marian Boats shipyard. Out of the partnership came a 7.9-meter, 100% electric powerboat capable of flying at 46 knots. Called the M 800-R, branded ABT-Marian, it is a luxury bowrider based on the hull of the M-800 Spyder. It is small, it is agile, and most importantly, it is fast and recharges in less than an hour.

ABT-MARIAN M 800-R

Ideal for short day trips, coastal cruising and being able to “fly” in all those places where an endothermic is instead “banned,” the new M 800-R is a hull designed precisely so that you can enjoy low-emission joyrides wrapped in comfort and style. Produced in a limited series of 20, it boasts a semi-planing V-shaped hull, a 122 kWh-capacity lithium-ion battery pack, and three distinct modes of use, the now familiar “Driving Modes“: a first, the “Port“, sees limited power, to facilitate landings and maneuvering, a cruising mode, “Cruise“, will instead provide navigational range, with up to 50 miles of range, and finally, the “ABT“, also known as high-octane (despite being electric, to recall the brand’s own offerings), dedicated instead to power, squeezing the most out of the electric motor and on-board jet-drive propulsion.

M 800-R – Deck

Looking at the design of the new M 800-R, what immediately stands out is the marriage of classic and contemporary lines. The aft section of the bulwarks, as well as the portions of the transom that lead toward the swim platform, recover the styles and curves typical of the hulls of the dolce vita, as does the full-beam sundeck that runs from here toward the cockpit. From this on, however, the music changes, with far more modern water lines and hull settings, a more starry and sleek bow, and an undoubtedly contemporary deck.

Indeed, the on-board layout looks far beyond the sweet life and, indeed, continent-changing, with a typical bowrider layout: open bow, windshield divided into two sections, and attractive lines, with several air intakes integrated between design elements and alcantara inserts. It is in the bow that a spacious convivial area comes to life, with a C-shaped sofa that seats up to 9 people, mirroring paro paro the aft sofa, just forward of the large sundeck.

The automotive soul of the design emerges amidships, with a driver’s station designed on well-founded canons in ergonomics, with wraparound racing seats and a helm station significantly influenced by the world of four-wheelers. Here, the technological component comes alive, with the latest gadgets populating the dashboard, mainly encapsulated in a 12-inch display containing every information and navigation system. Finally, the management software is constantly updated wirelessly, thus offering maximum performance.

M 800-R – Motorization and Performance

On the propulsion front, first, the electric component: 250 kW continuous power, 450 kW peak power. The battery pack, on the other hand, 120 kWh lithium batteries. A complex that offers top speeds of 46 knots in ABT mode (the one that offers the most power available), and ranges of 50 miles, or 144 minutes, in Cruise mode, or cruise. To cool the engine, several air intakes populate the hull, sandwiched between furniture elements in the forward space. On the recharging front, however, a CCS charger allows the battery pack to be restored to its maximum level in just under an hour, either through marine charging stations or classic automotive charging stations. The market price will be 450,000 euros, excluding tax.

The 8 powerboats that made Wally’s history

In boating, there is a “before” and an “after” Wally because the brand founded in 1994 changed the world of boats forever. In this case the insight, or rather the vision, bears the name of Luca Bassani. 30 years ago,
