From May 1 to 5 in Porto Rotondo, Sardinia, the Nautical Fair of Sardinia returns. Among the boats not to be missed at this show is certainly theAquila 36 Sport. About the trend on outboard catamarans we told you about it here. But the best way to understand the potential of these hulls, indeed multihulls, is to see them live and try them out. What better place to do this than the Emerald Coast in spring? At the Marina of Porto Rotondo,
FC-Yacht
, a company of Cagliari-based Free Charter Group, will showcase the Aquila 36 Sport, a very interesting weekender for the Mediterranean summer.
Aquila 36 Sport: watercraft, but with the space of a 13-meter
Aquila is the world’s largest manufacturer of motor catamarans. Its production does not include sailing, and it builds in a 93,000-square-meter shipyard in Hangzhou City, China. Every model is made in infusion, and one only has to see the pictures of this plant to understand how it has become an international powerhouse.
An industrial production entirely dedicated to multihulls, which have many advantages. Form stability, low fuel consumption and efficiency are undoubtedly intrinsic to this type of boat. In addition, Aquila’s smaller models paved the way for the outboard day catamaran, now a rapidly growing trend. This propulsive choice not only increases performance and equalizes it to that of sport catamarans, but also improves maneuverability with the help of on-board joystick systems, which are popular today.

Yes, but what about the price?
All good, catamaran has a lot of good points. However, one of the thorniest topics remains: price. For the same length, the catamaran costs far more than a monohull, from purchase to mooring. It becomes, then, necessary to do some additional reasoning. Think of your own home. The key point, it’s the square meters of living space, right?
Between a catamaran and a monohull, the argument is the same. And the square meters of a 10-meter multihull are similar to those of a two/three-meter larger boat. It is not just a question of beam, but of area to walk on, distance between bow and stern, and also privacy of cabins.
Not sure about the purchase? Try Rent-to-Buy and Try-to-Buy
If initial investment and operating costs hold back many potential shipowners, the Rent-to-Buy formula is designed precisely to solve this problem. Basically, all that is required is to make a down payment of only 20-30% of the purchase price (which depends on the set-up chosen) and commit to paying a monthly fee to be entitled to use the boat for ten weeks a year with the possibility, after seven years, of becoming its full owner.
When the boat is available Free Charter, the company of which FC-Yacht is a part, will commit to chartering it so that the costs of mooring, maintenance and insurance are reduced. This not only reduces the purchase price, but also lowers operating costs.
Aren’t you sciuro? Try-to-Buy
Interesting, but isn’t a sea trip enough to tell if it’s the right boat? With Try-to-buy it is possible to rent the boat and then go and deduct the cost of the rental from the price of the eventual purchase. You can then rent the Eagle of your choice, enjoy a week’s vacation in Sardinia or Greece, and eventually decide whether to go ahead with the purchase or try another model at the next opportunity.
