Motor catamarans are a breakthrough in the world of cruising. By now there are all sizes of them, from small daycruisers to superyachts, and, the mid-range, from 40 to 70 feet, is ideal both for cruising without sacrificing comfort and for venturing into longer, safer sailings. This is the dual nature of catamarans, and to give you a rough idea of what the market has to offer, here are the best power catamarans between 13 and 19 meters in 2023.
The best catamarans (13 to 19 meters) of 2023
Catamarans. Dufour Catamarans 44 Power | 13.42 m
The 44 Power is the first motor catamaran from Dufour, a historic name in the sailing world, and it speaks Italian. It is, in fact, scheduled to debut in the second half of 2023, but it is a project that is already catalyzing attention, putting itself forward as one of the most exciting new developments for 2023. Created in collaboration with Italian design studio Skyron, the Dufour Catamarans 44 Power is a 13 1/2-meter with fly that was created for both private and charter use and is available with 3 or 4 cabins, each with its own private bathroom to which is added the master cabin.
Aesthetically, one is immediately struck by the obvious design effort to create sleek lines, starting with the profile of the deckhouse and the inverted bows, without affecting on-board comfort and sailing qualities. The influence of the sail version is clear, but this 44 was created to meet the needs of those who want to sail under power. In terms of layout on the deck from the stern, we have two wide approaches with a movable platform in the middle that allows the tender to be hauled and launched. A large door connects the main living room area with the outside, creating a continuous convivial area.
The cockpit features two symmetrical L-shaped sofas with a central table while, to the right, a staircase leads us to the flybridge with maxi lounging area aft, wet-bar, and second helm station with a chaise-longue nearby to enjoy sailing in comfort. At the bow of the boat, opposite the deckhouse, another sunbathing area. The engine consists of two Volvo Penta D4 270-horsepower units for a total of 540 horsepower.

Catamarans. Leopard 46 Powercat | 14.13 m
Solid, smart and innovative, Leopard’s new 46 Powercat demonstrates the expertise of Cape Town’s historic Robertson and Caine shipyard in building high-quality motor catamarans. Simple, clean lines with no frills, aiming to break with classical canons to offer maximum comfort and safety. The windows applied to the deckhouse are flat tempered glass to increase strength and visibility. From the stern there are two separate swim platforms on the water while in the cockpit a large U-shaped sofa with table occupies the central part with access for the salon in front. The main living area has a large kitchen and to the right a double refrigerator and significant well-distributed storage spaces. The kitchen overlooks the cockpit level, making it usable as if it were a porch or outdoor loggia. Still inside, toward the bow we find two opposing C-shaped sofas and further to starboard is the wheelhouse. The hull is available in a 3- or 4-cabin layout.
In the first case we have a full-fledged master suite equipped with a desk, double sink and several closets. Each accommodation has its own bathroom to have on-board intimacy even with 8 people on board. Outside, around the deckhouse, two walkways lead to the bow. Above, however, is a flybridge equipped with a T-Top. Here, in addition to the second wheelhouse, there are sofas, comfortable seating and tables.
Let’s give some numbers: 14.13 meters long and 7.34 meters wide, this 46-footer has a relatively shallow draft, about 0.94 meters. As for the standard version of the engine, the Leopard 46 will be available with two 250-horsepower Yanmar engines that can be upgraded to 320 or 370 horsepower. In terms of safety, it is interesting to note the separate engine room, which is very spacious and accessible. With 1850 liters of fuel and more than 700 liters of fresh water embarkable, the Leopard 46 Powercat offers good spaces for long cruises immersed in comfort.

Prestige M48 | 14.79 m
Prestige Yachts has entered the vibrant motor catamaran market with the M-Line, a line inaugurated by the new M48, a design aimed at enhancing the entire on-board experience, combining XL volumes in compact dimensions for an excellent blend of luxury and usability. In terms of the interior, the M48 is particularly well designed and offers a 3- or 4-cabin layout. The only difference is derived in the forward master cabin, divided into two smaller ones in the case of the quad layout. Overall, however, the interior living spaces orbit an elegant and bright open space, complete with a finely finished kitchenette with ample storage.
In the salon we find the entrances to the three lower areas, of which, the one on the left is equipped with a shared toilet and double cabin with single beds. Also in the center of the room is a large living area furnished with a center table and a large sofa, facing the second lower access to the starboard double cabin. Concluding this area, we find the wheelhouse, located in the bow, just to starboard of the stairs connecting to the large master cabin.
Moving attention to the decks, on the other hand, furnishings and layouts are well thought out, both in terms of design and usability, providing multiple spaces for relaxation even while sailing. Starting from the stern, a movable swim platform is usable as both beach area and tender lift, while, accessing the cockpit, one is greeted by a large convivial area protected by the flybridge just above. A second lounge area is located in the bow, complete with sofas and sundecks, while, on the fly, we find an additional open area, equipped in turn with a full wheelhouse, several sofas, a mobile bar, and refreshment counters. Finally, to conclude an already particularly complete and comfortable work, hulls come into play, which, non-planing, allow speeds of up to 20 knots, which can be reached step-by-step, however, proceeding even at intermediate speeds, making it comfortable to stay at sea as well.

Silent Yachts 60 | 17.99 m
A catamaran that runs on solar power. Science fiction? No, reality. Already on the market for a few years now, Silent Yachts’ catamarans have been carving out an increasingly important audience. Their special feature is the propulsion system, but there is more: the on-board layout of this 18-meter (by 9 meters wide) vessel provides, in the basic version, four cabins on the lower deck, including a spacious master suite. On board, social areas have been created both aft and forward, in addition to the large covered salon with a height above 2.30 meters. Does solar panels mean no flybridge? Not in this case. The part of the boat most loved in summer on this catamaran is clearly sacrificed compared to a cat without panels, but still present with a wheelhouse and a convivial area.
The maximum of 100 nautical miles per day navigable with solar power alone is a child of a speed of 4 or 5 knots. Just multiply this figure by 24 (the hours of the day) and it comes to 100. The top speed, driven by two 340kw electric motors with 286 kWh batteries, is 20 knots, while the recommended cruising speed is around 6-8. But when you are at sea and want to enjoy a cruise, in fact, what’s the rush? No less than 42 17 kWp solar panels provide the boat’s charge.
Dulcis in fundo, this cat also has another treat for lovers of alternative propulsions. A small sail, or rather, a 10-square-meter kite is ready to soar into the sky at your command. The wind, clearly, must be blowing in the right direction relative to your course, but in this way you can decrease engine consumption by increasing range.

Catamarans. Fountaine Pajot Power 67 | 19.69 m
Elegant and refined, Fountaine Pajot’s new Power 67 aims to qualify as “luxury’s ultimate expression.” An intention that is well within the realm of reality given that this is not only an XL motor catamaran (19.69 x 9.48 meters), but an entire project that aims to maximize both comfort and enjoyment of the entire on-board experience, even for extended periods. Designed for big cruising and long sailing, the Power 67 is made available in two different versions: Lounge Maestro and Classic Maestro. They differ in the placement of the kitchen, below deck or in the salon, respectively.
In the Lounge version, with a galley below deck, the salon is larger, sacrificing, however, the spaces below deck, which in this case house the owner and 3 doubles, instead of 4, as is the case in the Classic version, with the galley then in the salon. In the sleek and well-groomed exterior, the focus remains on comfort and livability, with usable and easy-going spaces.
On board are two aft swim platforms, served in the middle by a tender-lift that can be used as a beach area. The cockpit is furnished and covered by the flybridge and faces the salon, thus providing continuity between outdoor and indoor spaces, interrupted only by large glass doors. From here there is access to the fly, with a second wheelhouse and a well-finished lounge area with wet-bar. In the bow, however, we find a convivial area recessed into the deck, not only enhanced by sofas and lounges, but also by an optional jacuzzi. Created for long stays in comfort, the Power 67 is indeed loaded with promise, offering a cruising range of 1700 nautical miles, thanks to two 300- or 480-horsepower engines and a 4-thousand-liter fuel tank.
