Volvo Penta - New Remanufactured Engines
Volvo Penta – New Remanufactured Engines

Volvo Penta now offers even more options for its customers to purchase a remanufactured engine. In a world where sustainability and reuse are the talk of the town, boating and the marine engine world also cannot lag behind. So the Swedish manufacturer-always attentive and at the forefront on the issue of environmental sustainability-has decided to take one more step into the future.

Volvo’s new complete remanufactured engines

Volvo Penta has had an active take-back and remanufacturing program for its engines for nearly 50 years, through specialized facilities in Sweden and France. Now the range of fully remanufactured engines is expanded with new models. The process is simple: all components that are not replaced are treated to return to like-new condition, after which the testing and verification phase takes place that allows Volvo to put mtors on the market.

Volvo Penta with this new option offers customers complete remanufactured marine engines of different models. Remanufactured D13 and D8 pre-EVC 2.0 engines are available on the market as early as the first half of 2024, while D4 and D6 pre-EVC 2.0 engines will arrive in the fall of 2024. Volvo Penta currently offers a wide range of complete partial engines for D3, D4, D6 and D11. For the marine engine remanufacturing process, Volvo Penta reuses up to 60 percent of the components and can reduce CO2 emissions in the manufacturing process by up to 56 percent compared to the production of new engines. The remanufactured D16 and D11 engines will go on sale in the period 2025-2026.

New life for IPS as well

IPS marine engine customers will also be able to purchase a complete, remanufactured Volvo Penta propulsion package for the first time. For remanufactured IPS transmissions, Volvo uses the same production line as new units, with the same quality and performance, and with the same Volvo Penta Genuine Parts coverage/warranty. Remanufactured parts are covered by the standard 12-month warranty. If supplied and installed by an authorized Volvo Penta dealer, the warranty is extended to 24 months, 600 hours (for recreational use) or 3,000 hours (for commercial use), and also covers labor.

The benefits for customers

The remanufactured engine offering is the best alternative outside of a new engine for Volvo customers, with some advantages. First of all, delivery times, which are faster because remanufactured transmissions are often readily available for delivery from Volvo warehouses. Second, all remanufactured components are upgraded and modified with technical improvements. In addition, since they are direct replacements, installations are easier and faster.
