Walkaround: the 9 boats perfect for the Mediterranean

De Antonio D50 – 15 m

Walkaround, XL stern platform and outboard motors on a 15-meter boat. The ingredients behind De Antonio Yachts’ D50 are a mix of all the major trends in contemporary boating, cleverly identified by the shipyard several years ago. Also available with an aft platform equipped with a hydraulic up & down system, it has a four-person sundeck in the center that conceals the easily accessible tender garage and outboard motors underneath.

Enjoying the sun and the sea from here is definitely the top, then as soon as a bit of hunger arrives you can move a little further forward to the large U-shaped sofa where in front we also find an outdoor kitchen. The peculiarity of this area is that it is also very protected, so it also provides safety for young children. The dashboard provides up to four seats so that conviviality is not lost even when sailing.

Above it starts with a soft-top cover in the basic version and goes up to a carbon, steel, and glass hard-top that toward the stern and forward can extend with a bimini. In the bow, in addition to the classic sundeck, you can also opt for a quirky, yet impressive, jacuzzi tub.

Below deck, however, the owner can decide how to have the configuration starting with a forward master stateroom, a bathroom with a separate toilet complete with shower stall, and a full-beam U-shaped dinette that can be converted into a double bed by sliding the small table positioned in the center. The second option, on the other hand, consists of two double cabins where one of them sacrifices the dinette and two full bathrooms. In addition, optional extras include a sailor cabin, regardless of version, with its own bathroom.

At the engine level, there are only outboards. On this 15-meter powerboat you can have Mercury Racing 450Rs, but also the brand new Verado V12s of 600 horsepower each up to a maximum of 1,800 horsepower. Already with 4 Mercury Verado of 300hp each there is remarkable performance, with 45 knots of top speed and fuel consumption at about 377 liters per hour.

Cranchi A46 Luxury Tender – 14 m

Since its debut, this walkaround has shown its full potential so much so that the 2022 and 2023 production has long been sold-out. This is no accidental result, but one that stems from the yard’s experience in building quality boats, combined with Christian Grande’s original and ever-evolving taste. The partnership between Cranchi and the Italian designer also gave rise to the A46 Luxury Tender, to which, of course, Aldo Cranchi contributed for the hull and Cranchi Research and Study Center for the design.

The A46 is a 14-meter dedicated to life on deck, designed to offer high-end yacht solutions declined on an open. On this boat, the stylistic feature adopted for the new models clearly emerges with the teak walkway between the two sundeck cushions, the color choice (widely customizable) or, again, the teak on the bow. The platform, now a must-have on board, can be moved up and down as well as crosswise. The sundeck is surrounded by a large surface area that becomes even larger when the aftmost part of the bulwarks is opened with a servo-electric mechanism that brings the cockpit surface area to more than five meters, in complete continuity with the surrounding flooring.

The result? A large terrace overlooking the sea. This we have seen now is the first, more aft area of the boat. The second, center houses the driver’s console, bar and seating. At the heart of this section is a large Italian kitchen with grill and griddle, refrigerator, and ice machine, while aft of the bar is a table with double seating, one on each side. Three seats, on the other hand, complete the dashboard, which is equipped with multifunction screens and a very intuitive wheelhouse. Starring here is the Volvo Penta D6 engine with IPS 650 transmissions for 480 horsepower each make the boat easy to maneuver, but also fun a top speed of over 36 knots. The entire dashboard is protected by a large hard-top equipped with integrated lights and hi-fi and a laminated sunroof so as to allow optimal management of light and shade.

A canopy supported by movable carbon poles is available to further cover the aft part. All forward, however, is the sundeck with additional seating at the bottom of the deckhouse, Portuguese deck style. Peculiar is the adjustable coffee table with a refrigerator underneath, also in the bow, so you don’t have to go aft for refreshment. Despite being 14 meters, the weekender setting is clear with a very functional modular interior. The forward dinette becomes a sleeping area while the aft cabin is full beam. Added to this is the bathroom with separate shower stall.

Apreamare Gozzo 35 – 9.95 m

If you sail near Sorrento you are unlikely not to come across one of Apreamare’s new walkaround goiters. In just one year Gozzo 35 has already exceeded 30 units sold. The reason is quickly stated: aboard this hull, classic Sorrentine style meets walkaround livability along with a modern, eye-catching aesthetic. The proof is that this 11-meter goiter is also capable of attracting a young audience that identifies with this style. All without giving up what has made this shipyard an icon in the world over more than fifty years. In charge of the deck plan was Marco Casali while Umberto Tagliavini was in charge of the hull, supported by Cataldo Aprea. Right recipe? Apparently so, if only by looking at the numbers.

“From 2020, the year the Gozzo 35 was presented,” explains Rita Pollio, managing director of Apreamare, “to the end of 2022, we expect triple-digit percentage growth with contracts already in the order book.

Apreamare Gozzo 35

Among the models of the shipyard led by the two families Aprea and Pollio, the 35 is already a best-seller. But what does it look like? Apreamare Gozzo 35 falls into the category of watercraft with a maximum length of 9.95 meters. As can be seen from the pictures, the deck is large (3.7 meters wide) in terms of walking area, making it easy to move around on board. At the stern you start from the platform, then you find the sunbed sofa with table and additional seating at the bow. The boat has a T-Top at the base of which is set up a kitchen cabinet that can be equipped with a sink, barbecue or stove top, refrigerator, and ice-maker. Beyond the dashboard is a second sundeck that doubles as an opposing seating system. Below deck, however, we find an open-plan cabin with a double bed in the bow, cabinets and furniture with leather inserts, and a bathroom with a large separate shower stall. Owners are then offered the opportunity to customize leather colors and wood species. In terms of propulsion, there is the possibility of installing two different types of engines, depending on requirements from a pair of Volvo Penta D4-270 DPI stern feet or in the shaft line with two D4 270s. With the former solution at 27 knots you have about 225 miles of range, while with the latter you have about 255 miles.

Solaris Power 40 – 12 m

When a stunning line marries a marine hull, there is little to do but climb aboard and enjoy the sea. Solaris Power has put exactly these elements at the center of its design, and the proof is in the success these boats are having in the market. Getting the spotlight now is the all-new Solaris Power 40, debuting at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2022, which at 12 meters in length overall aims to be a breakthrough in its segment. Developing this new model is once again the hand of Brunello Acampora and his studio, Victory Design, along with the Solaris Power Design Team.
Careful attention to exterior lines goes hand in hand with a deck designed to offer the ultimate in roominess. It starts with a large platform, the great virtue of which is that it is on the same floor level as the entire cockpit. The sundeck, under which there are three lockers, at the foremost part turns into a settee and serves as a seat around the table, offset by another on the other side. The T-Top is designed to provide a large area of shade given its considerable size. The single center-pillar structure offers a virtually 360-degree view from the dashboard, designed with three seats.

At the bow, the second sundeck and the deckhouse in general end in a downward curve, giving further momentum to the already curvaceous line. Below deck there is a choice of one or two cabins, with the owner’s cabin always forward in both solutions. Interior volumes were the focus of the design effort and also led to having a bathroom with a separate shower stall. At the propulsion level, the thrust is basically entrusted to two 280-horsepower Volvo Penta VS with which 31 knots maximum speed and 21 knots cruising speed are reached. For those seeking more excitement in terms of performance, diesel engines, again Volvo, are available, culminating in the 440-horsepower D6s with which the Solaris Power 40 reaches 41 knots of top speed.

Fiart 39 Seawalker – 12 m

The recent history of Italian boating also passes through Fiart. As early as 60 years ago, the shipyard, led at the time by Ruggiero Di Luggo, was the first in Europe to build a fiberglass boat, using it instead of wood. Now, in a world where the open walkaround is steadily on the crest of a wave, Fiart has acted with foresight by developing in just a few years a range, the Seawalkers, that is reaping success worldwide. The 39 Seawalker, middle model, is already a best-seller. Launched in 2021, this 12-meter declines according to the shipyard’s philosophy the strengths of walkarounds to which it adds uncommon underdeck habitability. The result? A sporty and eye-catching open, but also suitable for short cruises.

Fiart 39 Seawalker

Dominating the scene is the aft platform, available in both fixed and movable versions. From here, looking toward the center of the boat, there is a remarkable feeling of space, aided by the nearly four-meter beam that allows for easy movement on board. Also helping in this regard is the versatility of the spaces, which in the cockpit are modular and can be used, for example, the seating by turning the U aft so that it gives directly onto the platform, or as a large sundeck or a dining area. In detail, the owner can choose to have two front sofas and dining table or with a sofa that becomes a sundeck with a center table. The rear area of the boat is then designed with steps that hide a storage area for water toys underneath.

Below the T-Top we find a galley with stove, sink, and refrigerator toward the stern and a control bridge with two seats forward. The work done by the shipyard in developing a boat that was both sleek and voluminous allowed for a spacious and tall, yet bright interior. Descending below deck we find in fact a master cabin with a bed in the bow and a relaxation area in the stern, which can also be configured as a completely separate sleeping area, thus suitable for a couple of friends or a family. The basic layout includes a bathroom with a separate shower stall. Performance-wise, fuel consumption is quite low for the size since at 25 knots, two Volvo Penta D4-270 DPIs consume about 80 liters per hour. Two Volvo Penta D6 440 DPIs are also available upon request, or it can be outboard-equipped, for example, with three Suzuki DF outboards of 300 or 350 horsepower.

Jeanneau DB/43 – 13 meters

When we see a boat come out on the market it is hardly a last-minute project. Much more often there is years of study, testing and refinement behind it to provide the boater with the boat best suited to his or her needs. Jeanneau in 2022 officially entered the luxury day boat market with the DB/43. This model was the focus of the efforts of Camillo Garroni, Michael Peters and the Jeanneau team to create a walkaround unlike any other. Characterizing this 13-meter vessel are non-standard volumetries that show up in both the exterior and interior, combined with the shipyard’s desire to position this range at the high end of the market, but without forgetting Jeanneau’s DNA, which is based on on-board safety and security. As is often the case with walkarounds, the central point is the deck equipped with a large central kitchen with stove, griddle, and sink. In fact, when cooking you look aft toward the dining table capable of seating as many as 8 people.

Jeanneau DB//43
Jeanneau DB//43

This area, as is now customary, can be transformed into a large sundeck for those on board, while a second relaxation area with sundeck is forward of the windshield. The helm station has triple seating, protected by the windshield but opening outward with an optional movable canopy. The DB/43 can be either outboard or inboard. The former propulsion has practical advantages, but it leads to giving up a good portion of the aft platform, although it must be said that two folding bulwarks in the aft area may help not to regret it. Below deck on the port side we find a small galley that can be equipped with various appliances and, if desired, can be converted into a second on-board bathroom with a separate shower stall. On board, regardless, there are two cabins with the center, full-beam cabin accommodating up to three passengers on a double berth and a single berth, while the forward cabin is double (owner’s).Among the standards is a starboard bathroom with separate shower stall. As the market demands one can choose various options for motorizing the boat, outboard or inboard.
Day boat more than cruiser also for cruising range. With the 380-horsepower Volvo D6 each 800-liter tank you can cruise at a cruising speed of about 25 knots with about 135/140 miles in range while consuming 110 liters per hour. The boat is also available in an outboard version with three motors of 350 horsepower each.

Pardo Yachts 43 – 14 m

It is the progenitor of Pardo Yachts’ very successful walkaroud family. This began Cantiere del Pardo’s rise in the powerboat world, which has its absolute best-seller in the Pardo 43. This Pardo was among the very first to interpret this market trend, achieving worldwide success. His secret? To have created an excellent synthesis of form and function, combining a very marine hull with record-breaking deck livability. Among the most distinctive features is the typical upturned bow with the retractable anchor that makes the Pardo immediately recognizable. Created by Zuccheri Yacht Design studio this walkaround is clearly dedicated to outdoor living. From the stern the platform, optionally even more extended, becomes a kind of beach club on the water and in the hydraulic version also a lift for jet skis and tenders. Nearby is the large aft sundeck that is easily accessible and directly joined to the seating that forms the two sofas in the nearby dining area equipped with a fixed table for 8 people or, which upon request, becomes 2 tables with hydraulic mechanism.

The dashboard is protected by a carbon T-Top with LED lights integrated into its top to illuminate the kitchen equipped with sink, cooler, stowage area, and optional refrigerator, coffee maker, ice maker, barbecue or induction cooktop. In the bow of the bridge we find the boat’s second sunbathing area, obviously reached by a walkway that wraps around the deckhouse. The interior is, due to the large volume of the hull, very spacious and comfortable. Below deck, despite the great livability of the deck, is an open space with as many as two cabins: the master cabin, located forward, bright and airy, has a large bed and several storage areas and closets. In the stern, however, there is a stowage area that can be converted into a secondary cabin with two single beds. The bathroom, located between the 2 cabins, has a separate shower stall. Interior colors and materials can be 100% customized. For water lines, we are dealing with a V-shaped hull that provides stability, interesting performance, and maneuverability. Fundamental is the propulsion provided: the IPS from Volvo Penta where one can opt between two Volvo IPS 500 or 600 engines (optional) with a possible stabilizer. An additional treat of the IPS is that because they are moved further forward, they help the center of gravity and balance the boat when sailing.

Fjord 41 XL – 13 m

The name already suggests a major design effort. Bringing large volumes to a 13-meter hull that is primarily intended as a weekender. How to do this? With its higher freeboard hull, the Fjord 41 XL creates significant volumes in the interior with the aim of maximizing comfort and a sense of space. Another strength of this model is the possibility of customization that sees the owner at the center of the project to configure, if desired, every aspect of their boat starting with the deck and interior layout. In numbers, we are talking about about 90 possible combinations on the bridge starting from minimalist solutions to more articulate ones. Dominating the deck plan is one of the largest T-tops in its class supported by sturdy uprights that protect driver’s station with up to four seats and a fully equipped galley.

Fjord 41 XL
Fjord 41 XL

In the stern, you start with a giant open space and work your way up to various combinations of sofas, sundecks, settees, and tables depending on your intended use of the boat. Forward of the wheelhouse, protected by a large windshield, is a large walkaround. The interior is available in five different design and layout styles. For example, you can have a brighter guest cabin with windows instead of a walk-in closet or a kitchen or even a second bathroom. The Fjord 41 XL’s master cabin can be enhanced with a dressing room or study for those who need to work on board and can be closed with a soundproof sliding door. This door can be recessed into the bulkhead to save space and allows you to completely black out the master cabin when desired and have more privacy. To get a better idea you can use a new 3D configurator developed on the Fjord website. At the propulsion level, it starts with two Volvo Penta D6 340s and goes up to a double of Volvo Penta D6-440s.

Treasure T40 – 12.3 m

“The design, the planning, the construction, we do it all, and we can say that we were not born to create a business aimed solely at economic growth. My partner and I like yachts, and that’s why we want to make the boats we want: we didn’t rely on external studios or designers, but once we thought of the boat, we created an internal team of five engineers who now work for us.” This is how Tesoro Yachts CEO Andrés Martínez explains the background of the shipyard. The boat we see today is the Tesoro T40, which has sold out for 2022. In the exteriors it is a classic walkaround with a soft line that closes in a sharp curve at the aft end of the broadside. A large platform dominates the stern, which can also be chosen in a three-movement hydraulic version, while as standard it is fixed. In the case of outboard motorization, which is available for the T40, the swim platform surrounds the engines completely so as not to give up this space altogether. The absence of engine room (with outboards) allows stowage of various types of water toys.

Treasure T40
Treasure T40

The great care and attention to detail is immediately noticeable starting with the sunbathing area with movable backrests that are cushions for the solarium on one side and back rests for a sofa on the other. This also makes it possible to have a dining area with a central coffee table surrounded by two sofas with room for 6-8 people. The Treasury T-top T40 is available in two versions. A smaller one, with support in the center cabinet, and a larger one, 100% carbon fiber, with the uprights integrated into the bulkheads to provide not only more deck space but also greater stability.

The goal? Offering the largest T-top on the market in terms of area, but also capable of obstructing the view as little as possible. Also interesting is then the bow, designed as one large sundeck/sofa, suitable both as a relaxation area and as a “more convivial” spot, perhaps at aperitif time. There is no real galley “area” on board because the T40 was born as a pure day/weekender boat. This attention to detail is also reiterated in the finishes that characterize the boat below deck with significant brightness coming through the windows. Spaces are divided between two cabins with interesting heights and customizable outfitting from woods to fabrics.
