Finding a boat among the vineyards of Mount Massico, Campania, in itself can be quite a surprise. Even more so if, with the boat in question, you suddenly find yourself dealing with a legend. It is not just any Abbate Exception, in fact, the 14-meter boat found among the Campania vineyards; rather, it is the Dalmin, none other than the boat of the “Pibe de Oro,” Diego Armando Maradona. And it is for sale!
Maradona ‘s boat (14 m) on sale
Not only unique in that it was Maradona‘s, but extremely rare as well, because of its limited run, the Dalmin was built on Lake Como by the Tullio Abbate shipyards, and then gifted to the soccer legend by then-Napoli president Corrado Ferlaino in 1988. He was immediately named by the Argentine in honor of his daughter, Dalmita, born in 1987, coinciding with the year of the first Neapolitan Scudetto victory. A gift used in no small part and which, over the years, Maradona would not hesitate to use for his summer excursions to the waters of Naples.
Dalmin, the Abbate Exception
The question that arises, of course, investigates how Dalmin ended up among the vines. Answer that immediately came from journalist Michelangelo Iossa, the one who, having “discovered” the hull, immediately investigated. The boat, in fact, now called Mataibis II, was purchased in the 1990s by lawyer Avallone, who was then involved in pursuing legal matters in which the footballer was involved.
The hull was in fact the subject of a legal dispute, and to preserve it, the lawyer decided to acquire it himself. For a short time, the Dalmin thus became the “tender” for the Grand Hotel Parker’s in Naples (owned by the Avallone family), only to be decommissioned and kept in the vineyard. Today, however, it is for sale again, potentially poised to become an heirloom of no small interest to one of the Argentine champion’s many fans. A not insignificant detail: the interior would be, if properly preserved, Naples blue.
