Intercepting the new generation of boaters is no easy task. Habits of boat use are changing profoundly as are the people who use them.
Today it is not so uncommon for a young couple or family to want a compact, fairly fast, and marine vehicle to take cruises. It is somewhat the legacy of “nautical camping,” which pays for an unattractive name. If, on the other hand, you say you have had a coastal adventure by boat around the Mediterranean you will sound like a modern Magellan.
Philosophies aside, we can trace this approach somewhat to what on the road has been the explosion of“van-life.” Starting out with a camper van to get“on the road.” And many people are willing to pay big bucks for these vehicles that have been booming.
Lo and behold, when I stepped aboard the new 895 Merry Fisher Sport for the first time (on dry dock), I had the feeling that this boat was intended to be just that. Having downsized from a fishing boat vocation, the deck and pilot-house have been rethought to be as functional as possible for stowage and practical use.
