Garmin raises the bar for onboard electronics with the new GPSMAP 9000xsv, a range of chartplotters with integrated sounder designed for those who want a modern, clean and super-connected dashboard. The series, which joins the GPSMAP 9000s already on the market, introduces 10-, 13- and 17-inch formats with up to 4K resolution and many exciting features.

The 13″ and 17″ displays are the most interesting for the typical Mediterranean owner: they bring 4K to “real” wheelhouse sizes, with Mini LED backlit panels designed to remain readable even in bright sunlight. The full glass edge-to-edge design allows for a very neat flush or recessed installation, while the 10″ also arrives with an included bracket for those who want a more flexible solution or have limited cockpit space.

The acronym xsv indicates the presence of the integrated echo: here Garmin brings together UHD technology with xCHIRP and the new RapidReturn function, which doubles the update rate compared to previous models to return a much more responsive target reading, attractive to both fishermen and those who want to keep a close eye on the seabed and anchorages. It all connects to the on-board network via the 1 Gigabit BlueNet backbone, which allows chartplotters, radar, cameras, servers, home automation and various instruments to be brought into dialogue in one fast ecosystem.

On the cartography front, GPSMAP 9000xsvs are compatible with Garmin Navionics+ and Navionics Vision+, with features such as Auto Guidance+ for assisted route calculation, relief shading to better read the seafloor, and satellite imagery for a more realistic glimpse of the coastline.

The “control hub” aspect is also interesting: thanks to OneHelm, Garmin EmpirBus on-board home automation and various third-party systems can be managed from the display, centralizing many functions that usually require separate panels. On the connectivity side, dual band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi dialogues with the ActiveCaptain app for quick software and chart updates without going through the PC.

The GPSMAP 9000xsv series has a starting price of 3,699.99 euros, and is clearly positioned at the high end of the market: a product designed for those who want to turn the dashboard into a true “glass cockpit” on medium and large size boats.
