Green light for new boating license. A decree has been published in the Official Gazette (Dec. 19, 2024) indicating programs and methods of conducting the examination for the recently introduced “D1” license that is also accessible to minors. This is precisely a qualification that can be obtained from the age of 16 and allows exclusively daytime navigation within six miles of the coast with “watercraft” (units up to 10 meters) or, from the age of 18, with boats up to 12 meters in length, or with jet skis within one mile of the coast, if these units are equipped with engines of no more than 85 Kw equal to 115.6 HP.

The training course, to be conducted at nautical schools or boating education centers, includes at least 5 hours of theory in “face-to-face” and in-person lectures, plus 5 non-consecutive hours of individual practical boating exercises. The practical exercises are to be carried out on units at least 5.90 meters long, with engine power greater than 30 kW and registered in the ATCN, i.e., the recreational craft registers.
