The electric boat with foils conquers the market, despite a base price that is far from entry-level. It is called Candela C-8, and in 2022 it has already brought home a record in terms of sales: more than 100 orders before the start of production.
“More than 100 orders have already come in,” Mikael Mahlberg,Candela’s PR & Communications Manager, tells us, “Now that we start building them, we can close many more.”
In short, 2022 is still a long time away, but barring any twists and turns Candela C-8 will be the best-selling electric boat (8.5 meters) of the year.
One hundred orders for a model that has just entered production are large numbers even for a yard that produces “classic” powerboats. For an electric boat with foils, which by the way starts at 290,000 euros, we are looking at a record. There is, in fact, no model on the market today that can do such numbers. At the Venice Boat Show, we climbed aboard this model to see what it looks like.

The price of the Candela C-8 electric boat starts at 290,000 euros. Behind this figure must be considered not only the particular propulsion system, but more importantly the significant investments made to develop the boat’s software. This adjusts the “flight” system and automatically manages the trim of the boat so as to find the best formula and allow a flight.
“It’s not enough to put foils on a hull for it to fly,” the Candela development team that worked on the software explains, “and that’s our main strength in foiling. We have a program that has been developed through years and years of study and experience, and it’s fundamental know-how.”
