Few years like 1968 have marked a watershed in history. For us boat lovers there is a specimen which has become a myth, an icon that saw the light of day in the turmoil of those days: the Riva Aquarama Lamborghini, a unique boat, by many considered to be the fastest Aquarama in the world.

The Aquarama, as early as 1962, had appeared and begun to reap extraordinary success. Here we told you its entire history. On a May of 55 years ago, construction was begun on a boat that, once launched, rose to the headlines of the time. The reasons? Oh so many, starting with the construction site, one that answers to the name of Riva. The boat in question was an Aquarama, a model that was extremely popular in those years, bringing prestige to Italian shipbuilding in the world. But this is still not it all. The runabout in question had been commissioned by an out-of-the-ordinary character, the great Ferruccio Lamborghini, founder of the eponymous car manufacturer which posed a special request directly to Eng. Carlo Riva: his boat was to have Lamborghini engines.
Said and easily done. A pair of 350-horsepower V12 engines – the same ones fitted to the Lamborghini 350GT – went on to replace of the original couple of V8s. On paper, an operation that was far from easy to manage but, once again, ended up highlighting the skills of the workers of the Lake Iseo shipyard.
These are the 3 most beautiful wooden Riva motorboats ever. Do you agree?
Whit the end of August 1968, hull number 278 took to the water, which from then on went down in history as Riva Aquarama Lamborghini. After various vicissitudes, this iconic vessel has returned to its former glory thanks to the passion lavished by an Italian shipowner.
