Dometic
moves into the future with its new electric wheelhouse, the Optimus 3000 series. In fact, the transition to electric is not just a process involving propulsion, and yards have been increasingly favoring electric solutions for the past few years even to replace old hydraulic or mechanical systems that contain oils and fluids. One of these is the wheelhouse.
The advantages of having an electric wheelhouse
The new series is an excellent alternative for boats with inboard motors, from cabin cruisers to catamarans to fishing boats, up to 40 feet (about 12 meters) in length. It is also perfect for electric-powered boats. It is a suitable solution for boats with single and double rudder propulsion and offers several advantages over an equivalent hydraulic or mechanical system. Steering response is much quicker, due to the control and precision when operating the rudder, which allows for zero rudder play and great boat maneuverability at any speed. This makes driving the boat more fun and safer because the feeling of control is amplified.

What Dometic’s Optimus 3000 series looks like
The Dometic-designed system works through12V power supply and has very low power consumption. Actuator and drawbar work in synergy to ensure comfort and safety at any steering angle. The electric rudder automatically adjusts the number of rudder turns (in a range from 3.5 to 8.5) and resistance according to the speed of the boat and the situation (sailing, mooring, maneuvering…). It is possible to set the movement of the rudder according to the user’s preferences and characteristics simply by acting-with an installer-on the CANtrak LCD display provided with the wheelhouse. Dometic’s Optimus 3000 wheelhouse can be easily connected to the on-board network and can also communicate with third-party elements such as the autopilot.
