The range of boats from 8 to about 15 meters is certainly one of the liveliest in the market, with several models presented at boat shows and more and more owners (even on their first boat) “fishing” in this segment.
These boats are often born as dayboats, but thanks to very habitable interior spaces and very complete services, several owners decide to use them also as weekender and for small cruises.
On board in these cases are several must-have accessories: a generator, a sufficiently large battery pack, and a watermaker.
This is an accessory that is now standard on many larger boats, but on the small-medium length range it is not always offered as an option by shipyards.
If you did not have it installed when you bought it, fear not: there is a perfect model, just for boats of this size, that allows you to have 100 liters of fresh water per hour with a consumption of 400 watts.
It is the Zen 100 model from Schenker Watermakers, an Italian company that has a complete line of watermakers to cover the needs of small, medium and large boats.
Let’s see how it works.
Zen 100 – Fresh water on small to medium-sized boats
Schenker’s Zen 100 is a lightweight and extremely quiet watermaker, ideal for installation (which is very easy) on small boats (750 x 522 x 195 mm).
It weighs just 53 kilograms and is very quiet indeed during operation, which takes place on 12-, 24-volt and also AC power.
The 100-liter model is part of a range, the Zen, that goes from 30 up to 150 liters/hour capacity.
The desalinator features remote start and stop, thanks to a remote panel, and automatic pressure regulation.
In addition, an energy recovery system enables the desalinator to keep consumption low.
Choosing the touchscreen remote panel also provides several options such as the ability to schedule the desalinator’s scheduled start (and stop) with a timer.
Installs anywhere
The compact design of the Zen 100 facilitates its installation with minimal restrictions on placement, even on boats with very little space available.
It can be mounted either vertically, as if it were a panel on an engine room wall, or horizontally, for example on the bottom of a locker.
