After beingacquired by Yamaha during 2024, Torqeedo ‘s electric outboards are now distributed through some of the Japanese manufacturer’s European dealers. For now, there are eight countries in Europe where Yamaha Motor has announced this news, making it easier to distribute some of the German electric motors distinguished by their unmistakable orange color.

Which Torqeedo engines are distributed by Yamaha in Europe

With the acquisition of Torqeedo, a company founded in Germany in 2005 and capable of selling more than 250 thousand electric motors over the years, Yamaha is showing that it is aiming at several alternative routes to fossil fuel for future propulsion. In addition to its in-house Harmo project-recently updated, which concerns the development of an electric engine-the Japanese manufacturer unveiled just a year ago at the Miami International Boat Show the first hydrogen-powered outboard prototype. The range that Torqeedo that is available through Yamaha’s distribution network includes the Travel Ultralight models (1-3 hp equivalent power), Travel Family (2-5 hp equivalent), ideal for tenders and smaller boats up to two tons, and the more powerful Cruise (6-25 hp equivalent) designed for larger boats up to 12 tons. For now, Yamaha has announced that distribution of these Torqeedo outboards is active in eight European countries.

Starting in January 2025 we will see German electric motors available at Yamaha dealers in the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Spain and Portugal. We are waiting to see what the developments will be for 2025 of theincentive to replace endothermic engines with electric ones announced in 2024 by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, an opportunity for those who want to switch to electric.
