But what is the purpose of three hulls? By now we have come to know the motor catamaran and, often, to appreciate it in particular for its special qualities of comfort that are making it so popular. On the sea, however, there are also trimarans. They are not so common, especially by us and especially the motor ones, but there is a shipyard that even specializes in their production-Leen Trimarans.

Trimaran: why three hulls

For several months now, Boats with Motor has launched on its YouTube channel (subscribe now!) the video podcast “I explain the boat” in collaboration with Suzuki Italia Marine, where our Luca Sordelli and Stefano Monfroni tell how boats are made and why they work a certain way. We started with the basics, that is, the hull and in particular the hulls, describing how they are made and their basic characteristics. Then we moved on to “how they sail” in episode two and finally came today to look at the more special ones: multihulls or the less common types of monohulls.

In this chapter, in particular, we also focused on trimarans, which are certainly not seen every day, but they represent a smart way of going to sea. Of course, it all depends on the use to be made of them and our needs, but if you have wondered in life “But why?” this video will answer your perplexities: click here to watch it.

Today we are going to see, from a technical point of view, why this boat has three hulls. Click here to see the video.
